Alexa devices like Amazon Echo are a convenient way to listen to audio/music. Because they are portable, you can stream content from any device. In this way, you will always be close to the sound source without having to turn up the volume of the other device.

However, not all Alexa devices can play audio or connect to TVs. Furthermore, not all TVs can connect to Alexa. You need to know all the requirements before you can start listening to your TV from Amazon Alexa’s smart speakers.

This article explains how to play TV audio through an Alexa device and what you need to have.

REQUIREMENTS TO REPRODUCE TV AUDIO THROUGH ALEXA

Playing TV audio via Alexa is simple if you have all the necessary devices. You will need:

  1. Amazon audio device with Alexa support
  2. Smart TV with Bluetooth or
  3. A Bluetooth adapter connected to the TV

Having a TV that can connect to other devices via Bluetooth is essential. All Alexa audio devices are essentially Bluetooth speakers and there is no other way to connect devices.

Amazon Echo is a device that usually has both Alexa support and Bluetooth capabilities. However, not even all versions of Echo can pair via Bluetooth.

If you have Amazon Echo Tap, you won’t be able to pair it with any device. On the other hand, Amazon Echo Dot supports Bluetooth, but the sound quality is not at the level required to listen to music or TV programs. You should look for a second and newer device for better audio quality.

You can easily check if your TV supports Bluetooth by looking at the specifications. You can find the specifications on the product packaging or by looking for information on your Internet TV.

HOW TO CONNECT THE ALEXA SPEAKERS TO THE TV

If you want to connect Alexa speakers to the TV, you will need to prepare both your devices first. To do this, you will need to:

  1. Place both devices next to each other. If the device is not in range, it will not be able to connect.
  2. Say- “Alexa, disconnect”. When asked to disconnect, it will check if there are any existing Bluetooth connections and disconnect them.
  3. Switch the TV to the Bluetooth pairing mode.
  4. Say- “Alexa, connect”. This will command your audio device to start the pairing mode.
  5. If the device responds with “Searching…”, it has understood your command.
  6. Find your Alexa speaker in the TV’s Bluetooth menu.
  7. Alexa should confirm the connection.

Play something on the TV to check the sound. Now all the output should take place via your Alexa speakers.

HOW TO PASS FROM THE TV TO THE BLUETOOTH ASSOCIATION MODE

After making sure that your TV supports Bluetooth pairing, you should understand how to access it. Unfortunately, this is different for each model and you will not find any universal method.

Most of the time, it is necessary to access the “Sources” menu. For example, this is how you do it on a Samsung TV supported by Bluetooth:

  1. Press “Settings” on the remote control.
  2. Go to the “Sound” menu.
  3. Using the remote control, highlight “Audio Output” and press OK.
  4. Find “Speaker List” or “Bluetooth Audio Device” (this also depends on the model).
  5. Select the Bluetooth audio device you want to pair.
  6. Choose “Associate and connect”.
  7. The TV should be paired with the Alexa device.

If you have connected a Bluetooth adapter to the TV, the method should look like this. The TV should work as if it had built-in Bluetooth support.

If you want to pair Amazon Echo, the TV should display it on the screen. Make sure the device is in pairing mode and has been disconnected from other possible devices.

ARE THERE ALTERNATIVE MODES TO ASSOCIATE ALEXA DEVICES?

Unfortunately, Bluetooth is the only way to pair Alexa and other devices. Some models, like Amazon Echo Plus, have a 3.5mm audio jack, but that’s just for output.

You can connect it to other speakers to create an audio system, but if you connect it to the TV, it will not produce any sound.

ALEXA- CONNECT

Now that you know how to combine Alexa and TV, it’s time to connect them. Check if your TV supports Bluetooth or if you need to get a suitable Bluetooth adapter.

Once your devices are connected, you will be able to watch your favorite TV program from your bed. With a low volume Alexa device next to you, you won’t bother anyone else in the room and you can always turn it off with a simple voice command.
