At a distance of 10 days from when there was talk of a release not yet definitive HTC has finally begun the distribution of Android Pie on U12 +.
The update weighs about 1.06GB and is numbered as build 2.45.709.1. The changelog, unfortunately, does not offer much information, not even in terms of security patches, but confirms the removal of Google+ from BlinkFeed following the recent closure of the service.
The new firmware is currently in release in Taiwan, so European and consequently Italian users will have to wait a few more days, or weeks, before installing Android 8 on their U12 +.

HTC U12 +, U11 + and U11 are still waiting for the update to Android 9 Pie. Positive signs had occurred at the beginning of June with the launch of the distribution for HTC U11 in the Taiwanese market, but the enthusiasm did not last long, given that the company was forced to suspend it due to some soft-brick problems.
More than two weeks later, the situation remains substantially unchanged, but some details on the state of development of the works – not all positive – are provided by the Taiwanese manufacturer’s social networks, others by a source that is always well informed of the events of HTC.
HTC U12 +- THE UPDATE IS THERE, BUT IT IS NOT YET PERFECT
The first nucleus of information comes from the developer LlabTooFeR and focuses on upgrading to Android 9 for U12 +. The source points out that it is more or less ready, even if different aspects of the software platform have yet to be perfected – not all are marginal:
- Gesture support is missing
- There are no Digital Wellness functions
- Some system apps, such as Messages, display dated graphics
- There are problems with animations and slowdowns
- Among the bugs found, the source reports a substantial reduction in internal memory after flashing and problems with Bluetooth audio.
Android 9 update for U12+ is kinda ready BUT
-No gesture support
-No digital wellbeing
-Outdated look of system apps (ex. Messages)
-Inconsistent animations and lagsBugs (at least for me)
-Lost half of the internal memory after flashing, lol
-Bluetooth audio issues (low volume) pic.twitter.com/4dnHT0dQ7j— LlabTooFeR (@LlabTooFeR) June 20, 2019
It is clear that LlabTooFeR is carrying out its assessments on the basis of a non-definitive release which it has acquired. The news can be commented differently depending on whether you see the glass half full or half empty- it can be encouraging to know that the development of the update goes on, it is a little less to see that there is still work to be done for making it suitable for distribution.
The triplet of HTC smartphones is still waiting to receive the update to Android 9 Pie
The other news comes from an official source and speaks more generally of the update to Pie for HTC U12 +, U11 + and U11: the HTC Japan Twitter account in a message published in the past few hours refers to a release that could take them away in 2-3 months.
This is obviously a timeframe that could differ (hopefully for the better) in other markets, but it is a sign that something is still wrong in the development process, given that at least the update for U11 had been practically finalized net of problems encountered.
日本版HTC U11、U12+、Android Pへのアップデートは2~3か月以内に実施出来るように鋭意、努力中でございます。

For completeness of information, we note that the HTC Global Twitter account continues to provide a generic confirmation of the release timing:
- HTC U11 – starting from the end of May 2019
- HTC U11 + – starting at the end of June 2019
- HTC 12+ – starting in early June 2019
In the first and in the last case the forecasts are in fact skipped, and the more days pass the risk of not being respected even the forecast for HTC U11 +.
