Lenovo Z5 VS UMIDIGI Z2 – Is the Lenovo Z5 worth all the hype? So over the past few weeks, Lenovo has gotten a lot of critics in the smartphone industry. The company released their new mid-range smartphone called Lenovo Z5, and it was totally different from the leaks we’ve been seeing. Although the leaks are not actually true, but the company did promise a true bezel-less smartphone. Instead, the Lenovo Z5 comes with a top-notch, bottom chin and side bezels. Many people were disappointed after all the hype that surrounded the device. So in this article, we will be judging if the Lenovo Z5 was worth it by comparing it with the new UMIDIGI Z2 from UMIDIGI.

The price range of both the Lenovo Z2 and UMIDIGI Z2 makes them direct competitors in the mid-range market. The UMIDIGI Z2 also has a bigger version called the UMIDIGI Z2 Pro. And together they’re the latest flagship from the Chinese phone makers. So let’s see who takes a win in this comparison article.

Regarding the design, we have to give the win to the UMIDIGI Z2. The smartphone features a gradient twilight color at the back and imitates the Huawei P20. The Lenovo doesn’t just feature a plain back either, it takes pride in its colorful and vibrant back that also reflect light. Both smartphones are the best from their respective companies so far. The UMIDIGI Z2 features a front and back glass you would normally see in premium smartphones.

Both smartphones houses a dual rear camera in a vertical direction. The dual rear camera of the UMIDIGI Z2 is set-up at the center. While for the Lenovo Z5, the dual rear camera is set-up at the top left corner. And of course, they both have a rear mounted fingerprint sensor. The Lenovo Z5 is available in three body colors option; Blue, Aurora, and Black. While the UMIDIGI Z2 also comes in three body colors option; Phantom, Black, and Twilight. Concerning weight and thickness, the Lenovo Z5 weighs 165 grams and 8.3mm thickness while the UMIDIGI Z2 weighs 165 grams with 7.9mm thickness.

The top-notch display isn’t going anywhere for now, as both smartphones sports a top-notch, the notch of the UMIDIGI Z2 is however longer. They both feature an IPS LCD touchscreen, while the UMIDIGI Z2 comes with a Full HD+ view. The UMIDIGI Z2 and Lenovo Z2 boast the same 1080 x 2246 pixels resolution, an 85% screen-to-body ratio and 19:9 aspect ratio display. While the UMIDIGI Z2 features a 403 PPI density and the Lenovo Z5 features a 402 PPI density.

Lenovo Z5 VS UMIDIGI Z2 – The Camera

Coincidentally, the dual rear camera of the Lenovo Z5 and UMIDIGI Z2 consist of a 16MP primary sensor with an 8MP secondary sensor. Their cameras are powered by AI features. Up front is where the UMIDIGI Z2 dominates, as it packs a dual front camera consisting of a 16MP + 8MP sensors. While the Lenovo features just a single front camera with an 8MP sensor. The UMIDIGI Z2 supports face recognition and identification (Face ID) while the Lenovo Z5 doesn’t.

Lenovo Z5 VS UMIDIGI Z2 – Hardware and Software

Both smartphones are powered by different chipsets. On the Lenovo Z5 is Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 chipset, 8-cores processor clocked at 1.8GHz and Adreno 509 graphics processing unit. While for the UMIDIGI Z2 packs Mediatek Helio P23 chipset, 8-cores processor clocked at 2.0GHz and ARM Mali G71 MP2 graphics processing unit.

Running on both smartphones is Android 8.1 Oreo, while the Lenovo Z5 features ZUI 4.0 user interface. The UMIDIGI Z2 runs on pure stock Android software. In memory option, both phones come with a 6GB memory with 64GB internal storage. While the Lenovo has another version with a bigger 128GB storage space. The Lenovo Z5 does not support microSD while the UMIDIGI Z2 does and it’s expandable up to 256GB.

Lenovo Z5 VS UMIDIGI Z2 – The Battery

The Lenovo Z5 packs a non-removable Li-lon 3300 mAh battery while the UMIDIGI Z2 packs a bigger non-removable Li-Po 4050 mAh battery. Charging shouldn’t be a problem, as they both support fast battery charging.

Lenovo Z5 VS UMIDIGI Z2 – The Price

You can get the Lenovo Z5 for about $299 (N104,650) while the UMIDIGI Z2 goes for about $360 (N126,000). The UMIDIGI Z2 comes with a dual front camera, bigger battery capacity and supports face ID. If you ask me, I’d say the smartphone is worth the extra cash. The Lenovo Z5 didn’t bring anything new to the table in my opinion.
