Mio Slice is a fitness tracker that focuses more on your heart rather than step count to determine if you are fit or not. PAI is now the more fitness accurate fitness metric of choice and Mio Slice is aware of this. If you were wondering what PAI means, it means Personal Activity intelligence instead of using motion and others to judge fitness. It utilizes your heart rate to track how much energy you are expending and the for how long like the Fitbit Alta and most other trackers.

This is then processed through a specifically designed algorithm to convert the energy expended data to fitness-based PAI point. Mio has developed its own PAI metric to decide how active you are during the week to help you get it fit. The previous MIO’s devices, the Alpha and Fuse were about BPM readings while this new device focuses more on heart rate which is a major surprise. The Fitbit Alta is about the same price as Mio Slice at a price of $130 and cheaper than the Fitbit Charge 2.
During the setup process, you will be instructed to input your age, height and weight. This information is used to decide where your heart rate barrier should be, with low, moderate, high and resting heart rate thresholds added in. It recommends that you achieve 100 PAI over a continuous seven-day period which is certainly not an easy fit. Such goals are set in other to maintain peak fitness and prolong your time on earth, unlike 1,500 calories or 10,000 steps like other fitness trackers.
Pertaining to the design the Mio Slice is not much on the looks which suggest that Mio has not gotten the hang of making watches with great designs. There is a TPU plastic band that is about the same size as Charge 2 and an OLED display which if you were wondering is not touch responsive. There is also a single physical button on the side used to navigate through the screen display. there are few available options with different colours like sienna, stone and navy to choose from.
The model comes in two sizes, small and large, it is however advised that you should check out the measurement detail. It has a tight fit and does not cause skin irritation when you wear it during the day or at night and detects changes in blood volume. The Mio Sice has a waterproof up to 100 feet or 30 metres which makes it fit for swimming. The display is perfectly fine when viewed indoors, however, outdoors the screen is difficult to read.
In addition, the Slice also features a standard 3-axis accelerometer to track motion, steps, providing data on distance covered and sleep monitoring. MIO’s metric is based on gender, age, maximum heart rate and resting heart rate. The PAI is calculated on a continuous seven-day score of your heart rate intensity and the goal here is to keep it above 100. It has a four-day battery life and takes about an hour to fully charge it up.
