Oppo R17 and R17 Pro, here are the “New Year’s Edition” versions – dominating the red color

As already announced last week, Oppo has launched new versions of the Oppo R17 and Oppo R17 Pro smartphones, called “New Year’s Edition”. The Chinese producer, therefore, kept his promise by presenting both new devices on Monday 17 December. Both Oppo R17 and Oppo R17 Pro “New Year’s Edition” have the same specifications that characterized the standard versions.

The smartphones, given the upcoming Christmas holidays, are presented in a shiny red with a shaded effect, inside a box decorated in gold and red. The devices also offer a new theme-based UI. According to the Chinese calendar, the following year is considered the year of the pig and therefore on the back of the two devices we find a logo with a piglet. Furthermore, it is said that the red color symbolizes the traditional art of paper cutting.

The Oppo R17 New Year’s Edition is priced at 2,799 Yuan (about 357 euros), while the Oppo R17 Pro New Year’s Edition is priced at 4,299 Yuan (about 548 euros) in the Chinese market. Both smartphones are available in only 8 GB of RAM + 128 GB of storage options. The sale of both devices will start just before Christmas, December 21st. These devices are products sold exclusively in China, so there should not be any global launch at the moment (but never say never).

As mentioned, the specifications of both devices remain the same. Oppo R17 Pro New Year’s Edition runs Color OS 5.2, based on Android 8.1 Oreo, and is equipped with a 6.4-inch full-HD AMOLED display (1080 × 2340 pixels) with a waterdrop style notch, a Corning Gorilla Glass protection 6 and a screen-body ratio of 91.5%. The phone is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 octa-core processor, paired with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage, expandable via a hybrid microSD card (up to 256 GB).

The Oppo R17 New Year’s Edition, however, is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 670 processor, combined with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal memory. In addition, the phone comes with a dual camera (a 16-megapixel sensor and another 5 megapixels), a 3.500 mAh battery, Bluetooth v4.2 and a Micro USB port. Everything else is identical to Oppo R17 Pro New Year’s Edition.
