Qualcomm Promises Support For 5G Foldable Smartphones

So much talk about 5G as that appears to be the future of speedy smartphones starting in 2024. The foldable smartphone trend in 2024 is also gaining attention.

To support the wheels of speed, Qualcomm the chip maker has offered to support the foldable phone revolution with its latest Snapdragon 855 chipset. This is in view of the fact that the company did not say much about foldable phones at its recent summit in Hawaii.

In an interview, Keith Kressin, the senior vice president of product management at Qualcomm told Techradar that Qualcomm is very much ready for foldable phones at this time. Going further, he said that if OEM wants to introduce a mobile with a Snapdragon 855 that will be a very much awesome idea.

Although he also mentioned that there were no specific features to mention, it is apparent that 5G was very much a big part of the discussions at the summit. It is also confirmed that foldable phones would only require minor chip changes as Qualcomm itself says there would not have to be any major change to support the coming foldable smartphones in 2024.

The company said it would only require some changes like subsystem adjustments and some GPU changes. These changes will not be processing-focused at any rate. Regarding the changes, a lot will also depend on how OEM wants to manufacture the foldable.

At the present time, only Samsung is the Qualcomm partner in this regard. Samsung has shown demos of its Infinity Flex Display technology recently in a developer conference, there are speculations that the technology may be for the rumored Galaxy X or rather Galaxy F, for we do not know which one Samsung will prefer to call the phone.

It is possible for fans to receive this new phone as early as February or March in 2024. There is no indication right now that Samsung will use Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 for the upcoming foldable phone. However, it is clear that the two companies will work together, so that Samsung can use Snapdragon inside some of its flagship smartphones.
