Samsung Galaxy A8 (2018) with Dual Selfie Camera – Specs, Review & Price

Samsung Galaxy A8 (2018) – Review

The Galaxy A8 is the newest version from Samsung to join the Galaxy A series. The device is an update from last year’s Galaxy A7, offering a better screen display and dual rear camera. The Samsung Galaxy A8 is also the most beautiful Galaxy A smartphone ever with curved sides. At first glance you might mistake this for the Galaxy S8 due to the much reduction in bezels. It is also the first Galaxy smartphone with the now trending dual selfie camera.

Beauty will be in the eyes of every beholder of this device, the Samsung Galaxy A8 is a masterpiece. Designed to perfection, Samsung really brought their flagship design to a cheaper variant. The new Samsung Galaxy A8 has curved edges and sides, making it a delight to behold and hold. The aluminum frame body has both front and back protection.

The A8 is dual nano sim compatible and IP68 certified as well. Offering dust and water resistance, this smartphone is truly a combination of the beauty and the beast. Although it measures 8.4mm slim which is a little disappointing in 2018. It weighs 172g and is available in Black, Orchid Grey, Gold and Blue colors.

Display

What more could we ask for from Samsung this new year? A bezel-less Galaxy ‘A’ smartphone with no physical home button. I think its now safe to say that the physical home button has finally left the Galaxy A series for good. Samsung Galaxy A8 dishes out a much bigger screen in a smaller body, achieving a 75.6% screen-to-body ratio.

The 5.6-inch Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen is simply breathtaking, stretching all the way to the back. The screen boasts of a resolution of 1080 x 2220 pixels, with a high pixel per inch density of 441. Nevertheless, i still think the lower bezels are utterly useless and needs to go. The top bezels houses the dual selfie camera side by side with other sensors.

Hardware and Software

The Exynos 7885 chipset is in charge here, with an Octa-core processor clocking at 2.2GHz. Talk about being fast and launching heavy apps in 0.1s. For graphics and general gameplay, it houses the Mali-G71 graphics processing unit. Experience smooth multitasking through all your favorite apps and games with 4GB RAM space.

In terms of storage space, there are two versions, one with 64GB and a cheaper variant with 32GB. Of course you can upgrade both versions to 256GB if you want. The A8 runs on Android 7.1.1 Nougat out of the box and should receive an update to 8.0 Oreo soon. As usual the interface is a modified UI, the TouchWiz 6.0.

Camera

We all know Samsung Galaxy phones take some of the best selfies, now imagine one with dual selfie camera. The 16MP + 8MP front shooter on this beauty is worth talking about, with f/1.9 aperture you can take selfies from all angles. It is also perfect for group selfies, making sure everyone is in the photo.

At the back, there’s the usual 16MP with f/1.7 aperture lens for brilliant photography. Features on the camera includes phase detection autofocus, LED flash, Geo-tagging, touch focus, face detection, panorama and HDR.
