While the Galaxy A8, A8 Plus, A6 and A6 Plus are mid-range smartphones.
Most times I wonder if Samsung can make a low-end smartphone. Not everyone is that rich or can afford most of their products. Guess that would be a topic for another day. Well, for this article I would be comparing the Samsung Galaxy A6 Plus and the Samsung Galaxy A8 Plus. They’re both mid-range devices, so let’s see which one is worth value for money.
Samsung Galaxy A8 Plus VS Samsung Galaxy A6 Plus – The Design
The Samsung Galaxy A8 Plus comes in a front and back glass with aluminum frame. While the Galaxy A6 Plus features just a front glass with a metal unibody. The Samsung Galaxy A8 Plus has certified water/dust resistance with an IP68. Which is impressive for a mid-range smartphone. While the Samsung Galaxy A6 Plus does not have an IP rating.
In terms of sleekness, the Samsung Galaxy A6 Plus measures just 7.9mm thick. Which makes it more easier to carry. And will have a more fashionable vibe than the Samsung Galaxy A8 Plus. Which measures 8.3mm thick and weighs 191 grams. The Samsung Galaxy A6 Plus sports a dual rear camera and a single front camera. While the Samsung Galaxy A8 Plus sports a single rear camera and a dual front camera. The Galaxy A6 features a front LED flash which the A8 Plus doesn’t.
Their fingerprint sensor is mounted just below their rear camera lens. Black, Orchid Grey, Gold and Blue body colors are available in the Samsung Galaxy A8 Plus. While Gold, Blue, Lavender and Black body colors feature in the Samsung Galaxy A6 Plus.
Samsung Galaxy A8 Plus VS Samsung Galaxy A6 Plus – The Display
Despite Samsung stating the Galaxy A6 version will be slightly lower to the Galaxy A8 version. The A6 Plus seems to be battling it out well with the A8 Plus. They both feature the same 6.0 inch Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen. With 18.5:9 aspect ratio meaning there will be minimal bezels at the top and bottom of the phones. And also a display resolution of 1080 x 2220 pixels with 411 PPI density.

The Samsung Galaxy A6 Plus has better camera quality than the A8 Plus which is surprising to me. The Samsung Galaxy A8 Plus is a selfie-focused smartphone. It has a dual front camera with a resolution of 16MP f/1.9 aperture and 8MP f/1.9 aperture sensors. At the back is a single camera lens with a 16MP f/1.7 aperture with LED flash. While the Samsung Galaxy A6 Plus packs a dual rear camera lens. With a 16MP f/1.7 aperture and 5MP f/1.9 aperture sensors. The front camera lens houses a 24MP f/1.9.
Samsung Galaxy A8 Plus VS Samsung Galaxy A6 Plus – Hardware and Software
The Samsung Galaxy A8 Plus is powered by Exynos 7885 chipset which carries 2.2GHz Octa-core processor. The Exynos chipset is Samsung’s in-house chipset. While the powering the Samsung Galaxy A6 Plus is Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 carrying 1.8 GHz Octa-core processor. Running on the Samsung Galaxy A6 Plus is Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box. While running on the Galaxy A8 Plus is Android 7.1.1 Nougat.
Both phones offer two different variants in terms of memory and internal storage. The Samsung Galaxy A8 Plus comes with either a 4GB RAM and 32GB ROM or 6GB RAM and 64GB ROM. While the Galaxy A6 Plus comes with either a 3GB RAM and 32GB ROM or 4GB RAM and 64GB ROM.

The Samsung Galaxy A8 Plus and A6 Plus pack the same non-removable Li-Ion 3500 mAh battery. The only major difference is that the Galaxy A8 Plus supports fast battery charging which the A6 Plus doesn’t.

The Samsung Galaxy A6 Plus is currently sold for around $442 (N154,700). While the Samsung Galaxy A8 Plus goes for around $657 (N229,950). You save about $215 (75,250) going for the Galaxy A6 Plus, which has the same display, battery and even better camera to the A8 Plus. The major disadvantage of the A6 Plus is the no fast battery charging feature.
