1) Close all the apps that could use the camera
There are many apps that use the camera and while they are running in the background, the main camera app may not be able to use the hardware.
This could be the reason why you receive the “Camera failed” warning whenever you open the camera app. Apps like Facebook, Instagram and other instant messaging applications are often the cause of this problem.
If you also like to record the screen while playing, even screen recording apps can cause this error. Therefore, take some time to close all the apps running in the background.
- Tap the Recent Apps recent Apps icon (bottom left).
- To close, scroll up to scroll the app upwards.

- Press and hold the Volume down key and the power button for at least 10 seconds.
This will restart the phone like a normal reboot but the memory will be updated and all apps and services reloaded. To find out, you need to start the phone in safe mode:
- Turn off the device.
- Press and hold the power key beyond the model name screen that appears on the screen.

- When the safe mode is displayed in the lower-left corner of the screen, release the Volume down key.

On the other hand, if the “camera failure” error is displayed even in safe mode, the problem could be firmware or hardware. In this case, go to the next solution.
4) Back up important files and restore the Galaxy S8
We just have to return the phone to the factory default settings to see if it has anything to do with the firmware. However, since all files and data will be deleted when you reset the device, a backup is required. Then, disable the phone’s anti-theft function and then you can proceed with the reset.
However, before restoring, make sure you create a backup of your important files and data as they will be deleted during the process. Also, remove your Google account from the phone after the backup so you don’t get stuck out of the device after the restore.
