Sony’s division of the mobile phone market revealed last week that the latest update of Android 9 Pie would be distributed to several smartphones belonging to the Xperia series.
The Japanese company has said that its range of top-level phones, including Xperia XZ2, Xperia XZ2 Premium, Xperia XZ2 Compact, Xperia XZ Premium, Xperia XZ1 and Xperia XZ1 Compact, will receive the update from November this year.
As per a post on the official blog of Sony Mobile, some other phones should get the update for Android 9 Pie by the beginning of 2019, although the month has not been specified – it is Xperia XA2, Xperia XA2 Ultra, and Xperia XA2 Plus. “We are always looking for the fastest possible launch of the update from the moment Google announces the release of the new version,” said Sony Mobile. “And it’s essential that Sony engineers have time to implement all our feature upgrades and tests to meet our high-quality standards.”
The phone manufacturer has also presented an infographic in which he explains in detail the timing of development and implementation of a major Android update. It starts with the development phase of the kit (PDK) up to launch and feedback.
In addition to Sony, another brand has also announced that four of its smartphones will have a “taste” of Android Pie: we are talking about HTC, even if the company has not yet announced any release program. Chinese smartphone maker Vivo also announced its top-of-the-range X21 and other first-class phones would get the update in the fourth quarter of 2018, while Xiaomi’s Mi Mix 2S will soon have MIUI 10 beta based on Android Pie. Finally, Motorola is also announcing the names of the devices that will get the 9.0 version of the Google operating system.
