A semi-dedicated chip, designed in collaboration with AMD and Sony, will be used as the hardware for the game console to deliver 120 frames per second on 4K displays. This unnamed processor is said to have 8 cores and 16 threads and will be based on the AMD Zen 2 microarchitecture. In this sense, the PS4 Pro is a significant breakthrough compared to the 8 low-power Jaguar core.
The GPU will use the new AMD RDNA architecture. GDDR6 memory will be shared between CPU and GPU. In addition, NVME SSD storage will come as standard, and the console’s operating system will use some of this storage as virtual memory. It will also be separate hardware for 3D spatial sound.
The good news is that the PS5 and PS4 games can also be played.
