Tecno Spark 2 has been announced as the updated version of the first Spark smartphone, which is one of Tecno’s best selling smartphone yet. The Spark 2 has already been announced in Kenya and will be available first on Jumia Kenya before getting to Nigeria and the rest of Africa.
The Spark 2 comes with lots of trendy and advanced features, the full view display has finally found its way to the Spark series. The MT6580WP chip from MediaTek is on-board with 4-cores of processor, there’s support for Face ID as well. Lets find out more.
Design
The Spark series has been rebranded to come with a sleek unibody with curved antenna lines. Tecno also stressed that the Spark 2 would be one of the world’s most thinnest smartphone, measuring just 5.7mm in thickness, but I think it’s just 7.5mm in thickness.
With the official photos released, we can see the smartphone is very slim but we really doubt the 5.7mm measurement. We can see the rear camera at the top left corner, with the LED flash underneath. There’s also a fingerprint scanner, if you’re not into Face IDs.
Display
The Spark 2 sports the trending full view display, just like the Pouvoir 2. From the photos, there are no narrow bezels in sight, which is impressive for a budget device. However, the top and bottom bezel are still very visible like on the Pouvoir 2.
It’s built around a massive 6-inch HD+ IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen, this has a resolution of 1440 x 720 pixels and 268 pixels per inch density. The screen got over 75% of the entire front, with no notch whatsoever.
Hardware and Software
Under the hood is the MediaTek MT6580WP chip with Quad-Core processor and 64-bit CPU architecture. The 4-Cores of processor here runs at a smooth speed of 1.4GHz with 28nm process technology. The ARM Mali-400 MP2 graphics card underneath clocks at 416MHz.
There’s 1GB of RAM for smooth multitasking of light apps like YouTube Go and others. While the storage space is a little bigger at 16GB. You should be able to expand up to 128GB with a memory card nonetheless. The Tecno Spark 2 runs on Android 8.1 Oreo Go Edition with HiOS 3.3.
Camera
One of the highlights of the device is the 13MP rear camera with f/2.0 aperture, this will let more light in and enable you take stunning photographs. There’s a LED flash underneath to help in low light environments. Features like autofocus, geo-tagging, touch focus, face detection, panorama and HDR are present as well. The 8MP selfie camera has f/2.0 aperture as well and supports Face ID.
Battery
Powering the Tecno Spark 2 is a 3500mAh non-removable Li-Ion battery with no charging technology. Without the fast charging feature, charging the battery from 0% to 100% might take up to 2.5 hours.
