Apple prepares 2024 iPhones with 120Hz refresh rate

High refresh rate screens are the new fad in the Android world. Companies like OnePlus, ASUS, OPPO, and even Realme have launched at least one smartphone with the highest refresh rate on the market. In fact, the ASUS ROG II smartphone carries the refresh rate up to 120Hz instead of the most common 90Hz. Now, new information shows that Apple is also preparing to launch devices with a high refresh rate next year. That is a piece of big news in the 2020 iPhones.

Apple prepares 2020 iPhones with 120Hz refresh rate

According to advanced information from DigiTimes, iPhones 2020 may have screens with 120Hz refresh rates. Thus, they join Apple’s existing iPad Pro range. However, next year’s iPhones are likely to have a 120Hz refresh rate on an OLED panel, unlike the LCDs found on iPads.

But this is not just about the new iPhone models. The same information tells us that smartphones will generally have higher refresh rates by 2020. And unlike this year that we have several smartphones with 90Hz panels, companies can adopt 120Hz or even higher refresh rates in the next year.

Currently, and as we mentioned, we have only a few smartphones that have a 120Hz screen, such as ROG II, Razer Phone 2, and Sharp Aquos R3. But looking at this news, by 2020, that number will increase significantly. These high refresh rates will especially benefit gaming-centric smartphones. A niche market that has grown a lot this year.

However, with a high refresh rate, the question of battery life arises. Using a dynamic refresh rate can help optimize the best battery performance. However, it will cost more than a 60Hz panel. As a result, we should have smartphones with larger batteries and faster-charging technologies next year. This speculation does not come by chance. The ROG II with 120Hz display comes with a huge 6000mAh battery!
