The Asus ROG Phone has been launched as the company’s first gaming smartphone. It was long overdue, after the company dominated the gaming world with their high-end gaming laptops. The ROG Phone aims at continuing what ASUS has going on in the gaming world but for Android lovers.
ASUS might have just showed other big guns how to create a gaming smartphone, the ROG Phone comes with lots of features that is missing on modern day gaming smartphones. Most importantly is the GameCool feature, which transfers all the heat away from the Snapdragon 845 chip and out through the cooling vents.
Design
Now this is what s gaming smartphone looks like, the ROG Phone is a portable ROG laptop, literally. It has the gamery aesthetic design that you can’t resist, it also offers water and dust resistant as well. The dual cooling vents are the first you’d notice because of its orange color.
Then of course the ASUS ROG logo we typically see on its laptops, it has RGB illumination which displays different colors as well. It has a 3.5mm jack at the bottom, and two USB charging ports. The ultrasonic pressure sensitive body lets you squeeze the body to improve performance by automatically shutting down background tasks.
Display
The Asus ROG Phone comes with a nice screen to display all your gaming moments. Going with the trend, it dishes out an 18:9 aspect ratio, this offers more screen than bezels for gamers. Two loudspeakers are present at the top and bottom bezel, it also supports 24-bit/192Khz Hi-Res Audio playback and DTS Headphone:X.
Focusing on the screen, the device brought on the AMOLED capacitive touchscreen which should bring out stunning details. It has a resolution of 1080 x 2160 pixels and 402 pixel per inch density for sharp visuals. The screen also boasts of 108.6% DCI-P3 wide color gamut, HDR display and refreshes up to 90Hz 1ms pixel response time.
Hardware and Software
It houses the powerful Snapdragon 845 chipset from Qualcomm with an Octa-Core processor and 64-bit CPU architecture. The 8-Cores of processor here clocks at the fastest speed ever at 2.96GHz with 10nm process technology. In the graphics department, the Adreno 630 takes charge.
Easily launch so many games and apps at once with 8GB of RAM space available. It has a memory speed of up to 2GHz as well. Store up files and apps with two massive options, the standard version with 512GB and a cheaper variant with 128GB. The ROG Phone runs on Android 8.1 Oreo with ROG Gaming UI.
Camera
For photography, the dual 12MP + 8MP shooters at the rear does all the tricks needed. There’s a LED flash as well as other features to choose from like phase detection autofocus, touch focus, face detection, panorama and HDR. You can also shoot 4K video @ 30fps, while the 8MP camera is perfect for selfies and video calls.
Battery
Powering the Asus ROG Phone is a 4000mAh non-removable Li-Ion battery with fast charging technology. With the fast charging feature, charging the battery from 0% to 100% shouldn’t take up to 1.5 hours.
