BlackBerry Key2 VS BlackBerry KeyOne – any major differences?

BlackBerry Key2 VS BlackBerry KeyOne – any major differences? BlackBerry has released the BlackBerry Key2, which is a successor to their 2017’s BlackBerry KeyOne. In the world of technology where most smartphones feature the same design and specs, there are very few devices with its unique design that are offering something different from the general consensus. BlackBerry Mobile happens to be a prime example of that. The company has witnessed some turbulence in leadership change and all that. But they did, however, came out strong.

And now they’re back with a successor to the highly accepted BlackBerry KeyOne. According to BlackBerry, the new BlackBerry Key2 still maintains the core values of the BlackBerry KeyOne and comes with some trending features. Let’s find out the key differences between the BlackBerry KeyOne and the new BlackBerry Key2.

BlackBerry Key2 VS BlackBerry KeyOne – The Design

Of course, the BlackBerry Key2 maintains the qwerty keyboard on the KeyOne. They both feature the same aluminum frame with a plastic back. The aluminum on the new BlackBerry Key2 is a lighter 7000 series aluminum, which you find on most flagships. At 180 grams and 9.4mm thick, the BlackBerry KeyOne was considered a bit heavy and chunky. Well, BlackBerry Mobile has certainly worked on that, as the new BlackBerry Key2 weighs just 168 grams and measures 8.5mm in thickness.

The new BlackBerry Key2 comes with a 20% larger keys for easy typing. The capacitive touch 4-row keyboard remains unchanged in the BlackBerry Key2. Both BlackBerry smartphones are available in Black and Silver body colors. The BlackBerry KeyOne features a single rear camera. While the BlackBerry Key2 join the trend of dual rear cameras. So that’s a big improvement from BlackBerry Mobile. The fingerprint sensor of the BlackBerry KeyOne and Key2 is mounted in the space bar.

BlackBerry Key2 VS BlackBerry KeyOne – The Display

This is one department where BlackBerry Mobile didn’t change much. The BlackBerry KeyOne and Key2 sports a 4.5 inch IPS LCD panel, 55% screen-to-body ratio, 3:2 ratio, 1080 x 1620 pixels resolution and 434 pixels per inch.

The screen of the BlackBerry KeyOne is protected by Corning gorilla glass 4. While protecting the screen of the BlackBerry Key2 is Corning gorilla glass 3. That’s a downgrade in glass version, which you probably won’t notice.

BlackBerry Key2 VS BlackBerry KeyOne – The Camera

The single rear camera of the BlackBerry KeyOne features a 12MP sensor, f/2.0 aperture, 1.55µm pixels size, phase detection autofocus and dual-LED dual-tone flash. While the dual rear camera of the BlackBerry Key2 features a dual 12MP sensors. The primary sensor sports a f/1.8 aperture, 1.55µm pixels size and DP PDAF while the secondary sensor sports a f/2.6 aperture, 1.0µm pixels size and PDAF.

Up front, is an 8MP shooter on both smartphones. The shooter on the BlackBerry Key2 features a f/2.0 aperture and 1.12µm pixels size. While the shooter on the BlackBerry KeyOne features a f/2.2 aperture and 1.12µm pixels size.

BlackBerry Key2 VS BlackBerry KeyOne – Hardware and Software

The BlackBerry KeyOne is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 chipset, 8-cores processor clocked at 2.0GHz and Adreno 506 graphics processing unit. While powering the BlackBerry Key2 is the latest Snapdragon 600 series; Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 chipset, an Adreno 512 graphics processing unit and 8-core processor clocked at 2.2GHz.

The new BlackBerry Key2 runs on Android 8.1 Oreo, 6GB memory with either 64GB or 128GB internal storage. While the BlackBerry KeyOne runs on Android 7.1 Nougat, 3GB memory with 32GB storage or 4GB memory with 64GB storage.

BlackBerry Key2 VS BlackBerry KeyOne – The Battery

The battery capacity is the same on both BlackBerry smartphones. They pack a non-removable Li-lon 3500 mAh battery, which should last up to 18 hours on normal usage.

BlackBerry Key2 VS BlackBerry KeyOne – The Price

It seems the new features in the BlackBerry Key2 comes at an extra cost. The BlackBerry KeyOne is sold for about $601 (N210,350) while the BlackBerry Key2 goes for around $765 (N267,750). The new features on the BlackBerry Key2 is a welcome development. But I don’t think it’s worth $164 (N57,400). The display and camera specs are the same on both smartphones. The Key2 comes with a slightly better hardware, software, and camera.
