Here’s how to check if an iPhone was stolen

The number of reported stolen smartphones has been on the increase over the years. And to be honest, the persons to be blamed is unknown. Is it the careless smartphone owner? Or the evil phone thief? Anyway, that’s a debate for some other time.

The iPhone is among the most expensive smartphone in the world right now; irrespective of the model. The exorbitant price and the thirst for a nice smartphone pushes people who cannot afford to purchase a new iPhone into buying used/second-hand iPhones.

This in itself isn’t a bad idea. In fact, it even saves the buyer a lot of money. But the problem here is the “origin” or “source” of the smartphone.

While there is no trouble buying your cousin’s old iPhone, there may be some great danger if you choose to, consciously or not, purchase a stolen iPhone.

At this point, I know you may find yourself asking, “What’s the worst thing that could happen if I purchase a stolen iPhone?”

Well, asides the fact that your iPhone could end up bricked (dead), you might as well receive a visit from law enforcement agencies (the police) with claims that you are in the possession of an iPhone that was reported stolen. See?

Now to avoid all these hassles and embarrassment, you can simply check if an iPhone has been reported stolen or not before buying. And how do you do this? Simple. Just read on.

Simply type the URL stolenphonechecker.org into your browser. Afterwards, input the IMEI number of the iPhone you intend to purchase in the provided space. The online tool will go ahead to compare the provided IMEI number against multiple source databases, and return a result telling if the device was stolen or not.

The IMEI number is a 15-digit number that is unique to a particular device. The number can be found mostly on the back devices, including iPhones. Or you can just simply dial *#06# on the smartphone you intend to purchase to reveal its IMEI number.
