Chuwi wants to make mini-PC with Intel Core i7-8709G

The Chinese manufacturer Chuwi is planning to make a mini PC with an Intel Core i7-8709G chip. That chip contains an Intel quad-core processor and an AMD RX Vega-GPU. Only Intel used the chip so far, in its latest high-end Hades Canyon-NUC.

The Chinese manufacturer has announced its HiGame mini-PC and will soon raise money to make the product through a campaign on Indiegogo. Chuwi usually brings its products to the market that way.

In an announcement that Tweakers received via e-mail, the manufacturer said he would use the Core i7-8709G. The chip has a tdp of 100 watts and has the AMD RX Vega M GH-GPU with 24 compute units. On his website, Chuwi writes that versions come with i7 and i5. Of the i5, Intel has only released a 65-watt model, which is also in laptops and has an RX Vega M GL-GPU with 20 compute units.

In the small PC, with dimensions of 173x158x73mm, there are 8GB of RAM and a 256GB SSD. Both are easy to replace according to Chuwi. The small PC needs to deliver higher performance than what a Core i7-7700HQ laptop processor can offer in combination with a Nvidia GTX 1060 video card.

The HiGame PC gets a Thunderbolt 3 connection, two HDMI 2.0 ports, two display port 1.3 ports and a gigabit network connection. Chuwi will deliver the device with Windows 10 Home. When the PC comes on the market and what it will cost, is not yet known.
