Compatibility of PS4 games on PS5 will be very complicated!

The console war is raging with PlayStation and Xbox fans eager to know who will win this battle. At one point, for now, it seems that the Microsoft console takes advantage. According to new information, Sony told PS4 game developers that any title submitted for authentication must be fully compatible with PS5 consoles. This PS4 and PS5 compatibility will still give a lot to talk about!

This rule takes effect on the 13th of July. This means that from mid-July onwards, all games created for PS4 should already work on PS5. But what about the thousands of titles that already existed?

Sony recently released a document on the official partner website. The document details what programmers should take into account for games that have passed the PS5 hardware compatibility test. This option was added to the new version of the PS4 software development kit at the end of April this year. Sony told developers that it will contact them to provide information on how to test PS5 compatibility.

The programmers’ documentation also speaks a bit of the meaning of “compatible”. For this to happen, the code will have to run on the Sony PS5 console without problems and provide the same functions as on the PS4 version. Only then will you be able to run on PS5. That is, if a particular mode is not available then the title will not have the compatible seal.

Now imagine the thousands of games that exist for PS4 and also calculate the likelihood that they will not work.

According to some sources, the majority should not be compatible, at least 100%. Will publishers be willing to make some adjustments via updates for old games?

This can be good for consumers. It is that before a person buys a game for PS4, he immediately knows through the box if it will work on PS5.

In addition to compatibility, another important issue on PS5 is the price and there is still no official information. However, Jim Ryan, president, and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE), said recently that the PS5’s price will reflect the console’s best value. Still, this does not mean that it is “cheap”. But it means that it will have a good quality/price ratio.
