Excelvan PH5 Projector Specs Review & Price in Nigeria, Kenya & Ghana

Gone are the days when projectors have to be bulky and heavy and hence had to be used in spacious places; the modern gadgets/accessories market is now filled with mini projectors that work as good as (if not better than) the old, bulky projectors, and with the added advantage of being small, compact and portable. This has made them the go-to devices for use in outdoor presentations, events, and gatherings, as well as indoor conferences and seminars. We at TechVaz have recognized the demand for them. Hence we shall be reviewing more projectors and similar devices in the coming days to avail our audience the opportunity of knowing what exactly they’re purchasing.

There are so many companies manufacturing projectors and selling then out there; alas, nobody wants to dull it in such a thriving market niche. As a result of this, there has been an influx of a lot of sub-standard projectors which has misled some consumers into purchasing the wrong tools for their needs. In our projector review series, we’ll be focusing more on products by Excelvan, a foreign gadgets manufacturing company whose products are so good that they have a separate page on Jumia Nigeria.

Design & Build Quality

The Excelvan PH5 Projector looks like the other Excelvan projectors at this price range. The body is made with plastic and doesn’t look premium, but you shouldn’t expect anything more than that at this price level. That said, the build is durable as long as it’s properly taken care of.

Located at the top of the projector are some keys for controlling the device. There is the power key for turning on and off the projector, a direction key that can be turned left or right to define the angle of projection. The source key (which is used to select the source of the item to be projected) and the menu key (for choosing different functions) are located in the middle of the direction key.

At the front of the Excelvan PH5 Projector are the lens which project the image. By its left side is a sensor for the remote control, and by its right side are the vents for cooling the device.

The back panel of the projector contains a host of ports one side of which contains two USB Ports, one VGA port, two HDMI ports, one Y/Pb/Pr port, one audio input, one audio output, one video input, and one ATV port. The other side of the back panel houses the power input port.

The underside of the projector contains four small foots which make the projector sturdy, and can also be used to screw the projector to a surface, for situations where the projector needs to be on the ceiling for example. The right side of the projector houses the speaker.

Overall, the Excelvan PH5 Projector has a good build quality, and it’s beautiful enough to be carried outside.

Connectivity

The different ports on the projector give it versatility and allow it to be usable in a wide range of locations. The HDMI ports allow you to connect it to small monitors (like TVs that have HDMI ports and small laptops) and display and project the image on them to a bigger resolution. The VGA port is useful for transferring display data from computers to the projector. It can also be used with the USB port as an alternative, and the USB ports allow you to use videos and pictures from your smartphone in the projector.

The ATV port allows you to connect a TV or satellite receiver to the projector. There are also video input and audio input ports for playing audio and video files with the projector from external sources, and the audio output allows you to connect the projector to external speakers if the built-in speakers do not perform well enough for you.

With all these ports present on it, the Excelvan PH5 Projector is suitable for use in outdoor/indoor conferences, mini theatres, and private use.

Picture Quality

The native picture resolution of this projector is 800 * 600 pixels, but it is capable of projecting pictures up to a Full HD (1920 * 1080) pixel resolution. However, you don’t expect the picture quality of the Full HD projection to be as high as the native 800 * 600 resolution. HD videos would perform well on it anyway.

You can switch the aspect ratio of the projection to any of the values between 16:9 and 4:3. It has a brightness output of 2500 lumens which is good, but the fact that it’s not adjustable might not appeal well to some. The projector can project images within a distance of 40 inches and 120 inches. At 40 inches, the picture quality is great, but moving closer to 120 inches the picture quality at the edges begins to get blurry, but the overall display quality is still quite good.

The projector has a vertical keystone correction feature which ensures that pictures and video are projected in rectangular shape regardless of the position of the projector or the surface upon which the image is being projected.

Usage

To use the Excelvan PH5 Projector, plug the power cord into a suitable power outlet and insert the other end into the power input port of the projector. The built-in stereo speakers work great for small rooms, but to use them in larger places you will need external speakers.

One good thing about the Excelvan PH5 Projector is that it doesn’t make noise when it’s in operation; it uses Hyperfine air cooling technology which cools the projector with the least amount of noise possible. Worthy of note also is the fact that the projector uses single LCD+LED projection technology and the V69 projection scheme.
