Manufacturers like Huawei, Xiaomi and ZTE will begin to have to pay for the use of Google’s Android system later this year.
If you follow the technology news at 4gnews you know that Google lost in the European court and was forced to charge Google applications in the Android system to manufacturers.
That is, in order to understand what is happening, you must understand the context. The Android System is free, though, if manufacturers are required to use Google applications on their smartphones. That is, Chrome, Google search, or even Photos already arrive pre-installed on all Android smartphones.
Huawei, Xiaomi and ZTE were referred to in Google’s Android account tweet
There is no way for manufacturers to officially run the Android system without these applications. In fact, the American company mentioned 3 possibilities in this situation:
- Require manufacturers to pre-install the Google Search app and Chrome browser as a condition for Google Play licensing
- Paying for certain large manufacturers and mobile network operators that pre-installed exclusively the Google search application on their smartphones
- Manufacturers refusing to install the company’s applications would have a different version of the forked version of the Android system.
In the view of the European Union, none of these solutions is valid. As such, Google was forced to charge manufacturers who wanted to install Google services on their smartphones.
Although this will initially happen, it will also make manufacturers start to further develop their app stores or close deals with other stores, such as Aptoide.
This is an opportunity for Aptoide to shine
Well, this decision will begin as early as 2019 and manufacturers who want to use the system will have to pay. A tweet from the Android account said that “Huawei, Xiaomi, ZTE, and other manufacturers will have to start paying for the system by the end of the year.”
The tweet was then deleted, but it gave us the information on when things could start to change.
In conclusion, we only need to know how much the manufacturers will be able to pay for this licensing. We also lack to know if smartphones that are sold outside the European Union will be included.
Huawei, Xiaomi, and ZTE already have their shop ready. All that remains to be done is to convince the developers to start publishing their applications there and make the Apps store more viable for our market.
