HTC to unveil U23 Pro 5G phone on May 18

It seems that HTC wants to get back to playing seriously within the smartphone segment.

Through social networks, the Taiwanese multinational revealed a launch event for its new cell phone, the HTC U23 Pro 5G.

HTC has not had any relevant undertakings within the smartphone segment in recent years. After the launch of the HTC One (M8) in 2014, the company began a decline and since then has not launched anything that rivals the top of the industry.

But it seems the manufacturer can now return to the segment with something to show its consumers. After leaked images leaked on a Chinese website, where we had the first glimpse of what this new smartphone could be, HTC confirmed that it will hold an event for the launch on May 18 of the supposed HTC U23 Pro 5G.

The HTC U series usually brings the company’s main models, its top-of-the-line. The last model in this series was the HTC U12 Plus, which was released in 2018 and featured a Snapdragon 765G processor, making it a mid-range smartphone.

As for the HTC U23 Pro 5G, what is known so far – still without official confirmation – is that it will have a Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 inside it, an AMOLED  screen with a refresh rate of 120 Hz, 8 GB of RAM, 256 GB storage, 3.5mm headphone jack (at the top of the device), 4600 mAh battery, main camera with 108 MP sensor and pre-installed Android 13. Three versions of the HTC U23 Pro 5G were identified through the numberings 2QC9100, 2QC9200, and 2QCB100.

With these specifications, HTC’s new model still won’t occupy the pantheon of great smartphones, but this could be a significant return for the company to the segment.

Another point to highlight is the presence of the Viveverse logo in the announcement of this release. Viveverse is HTC’s cross-platform metaverse, made up of apps, worlds, and interactive games that can be accessed by the company’s smartphones, tablets, and PCs, plus, of course, its Vive Flow VR virtual reality headset. What we can deduce is that HTC U23 Pro 5G will have some support for this feature.
