Huawei Sets A New Record, Sells More than 200 Million Phones in 2024

Back in August it was said that Huawei overtook Apple to become the number two company selling the most mobile phones in history. Now, the latest information has given how many phones the company sold in 2024. It is hard to find the exact figure but now we know the company sold more than 200 million smartphones in this out-going year.

A spokesperson from the company revealed this information to the public in celebration of the company’s success despite threats from external sources. The company also revealed that the numbers were largely driven by the success of its flagships like P20, Honor 10, and Mate 20 series.

Back in 2010, the company sold about 3 million phones. In 2017, the company sold 153 million units of smartphones, while the overtaking of Apple occurred in the second quarter of 2017. The researcher who released the information is Canalys.

A statement from Huawei said the following- In the global smartphone market, Huawei has gone from being dismissed as a statistical ‘other’ to ranking among the top three players in the world.

Accordingly, the embattled Chinese phone maker shipped 54 million handsets in the quarter and that is seen as 41 percent increase over what obtained last year. Huawei is able to maintain the hold due to strong demand for its flagship P20 and the Honor sub-brand.

Samsung with its Galaxy phone line maintained the number one spot but lost ground to Huawei by shipping 73 million units of phones which is an eight percent decline over last year. Apple had a one percent increase over last year by shipping 41 million iPhone units, and it slipped to number three in 2024.

An analyst from Canalys said that Huawei’s strategy has evolved significantly over the last six months. Despite failure to strike a US carrier partnership earlier this year, the phone company has turned around quickly, moving away from its drive for profitability and focusing on finding volume and growth at the low end.

No matter how bleak the future looks for Apple, it is claimed that the company could move up in the next quarter in anticipation of its flagships coming out in the year 2019.
