The manufacturing company rolled out their latest flagship smartphones, the Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus. And with a fundamental upgrades on their camera. Challenging the Samsung Galaxy S9 in this article will be the Apple iPhone 8. The iPhone 8 was launched in the second half of 2017. And its been trending since then. Apple’s main rival in the phone market is definitely Samsung. So let’s see how the iPhone 8 and Samsung Galaxy 9 match up.

Most phone companies are ditching the metal back. Both the iPhone 8 and Samsung Galaxy S9 have the trending glass front and back, that’s ringed in metal. While the iPhone 8 comes with stainless steel metal, the Galaxy S9 opted for an aluminum. Samsung Galaxy S9 is more heavier and thicker than iPhone 8. Which i won’t say is either a bad thing nor a good thing. It just depends on your preference. Some people will like their smartphone to be felt when held while other won’t.

The iPhone 8 measures 7.3mm in thickness and weighs 148 grams. While the Samsung Galaxy S9 weighs 163 grams and 8.5mm thickness. For the first time in the Galaxy series, we have a color purple. The Galaxy S9 is sold in Midnight Black, Coral Blue, Titanium Gray and Lilac Purple body colors. While its the usual Silver, Space Gray and Gold colors for the iPhone 8.

The Samsung Galaxy S9 has better IP rating than the iPhone 8. Both phones can survive in water for up to 30 minutes. But the water depth for the Galaxy S9 is at 1.5 meters thanks to its IP68 rating. While the depth for iPhone 8 is 1 meter due to an IP67 rating.

The iPhone 8 at 4.7 inch display size is really starting to look a bit small. Although some users would prefer it. The Samsung Galaxy S9 comes with a 5.8 inch display size. Samsung are the king when it comes to bezels which they have been into since the days of Galaxy S6 Edge. The Galaxy S9 is bezel-less with a screen-to-body ratio of 83.6%. If you’re not a bezel-less fan, then the iPhone 8 is for you. The screen-to-body ratio of the iPhone 8 is at 65.4%.

With the super AMOLED screen on the Galaxy S9 you will get brighter and higher contrast screen than the IPS LCD screen found on iPhone 8. It’s no surprise that the iPhone X came with AMOLED screen. The Galaxy S9 comes with 1440 x 2960 pixels resolution with 570 ppi density. While iPhone 8 has 750 x 1334 pixels resolution and 326 ppi density.

Both phones come with the usual fingerprint sensor. While the Galaxy S9 adds Face ID system plus Iris scanner for better security.

Samsung really did a good improvement on the camera of the Galaxy S9. Which beats that of the iPhone 8. The Galaxy S9 comes with a dual 12MP with f/1.5 aperture + 12MP with f/2.4 aperture rear camera. While the iPhone has a 12MP rear camera with f/1.8 aperture. In the front-facing camera, the Galaxy S9 sports 8MP with f/1.7 aperture. Which is better than 7MP with f/2.2 aperture found on the iPhone 8.

Under the hood of the Galaxy S9 is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset with Octa-core 2.7GHz processor. While Powering the iPhone 8 is the A11 Bionic with Hexa-core processor. The Apple’s A11 Bionic chipset is the best out there.

Both phones comes with models having an internal storage of 64GB and 256GB. With the Galaxy S9 adding another 128GB option. A 4GB RAM is available for the Galaxy S9 while 2GB RAM is what you get on the iPhone 8. But with Apple owning their operating system, the 2GB RAM will still offer good performances for its device.

You can get the Galaxy S9 for around $1,033 (N361,500). And the iPhone 8 goes for about $860 (N301,000). Although the Samsung Galaxy S9 is more expensive, it still offer value for your money. It beats the iPhone 8 in almost every category. Except the hardware, with the iPhone 8 A11 Bionic chipset.
