Samsung Galaxy A6 VS Samsung Galaxy A8 – Samsung 2018 Mid-range Battle. Samsung is back again with the release of the Samsung Galaxy A6 and A6 Plus. They are both mid-range smartphones with some high-end features of the Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus. For example, the trending AMOLED screen which is owned by Samsung. So it’s good to see their mid-range smartphones having not just the AMOLED screen but the Super version.

But the Samsung Galaxy A6 and A6 Plus are not the only mid-range phones to have been released by Samsung this year. Earlier this year, they released the Samsung Galaxy A8 and A8 Plus, which are also mid-range phones but a bit higher to the Galaxy A6 and A6 Plus. For this article, I would be comparing the Samsung Galaxy A6 and Galaxy A8. Samsung already said the Galaxy A8 is bigger than the Galaxy A6. But we need to be sure by checking out their specifications.

The Samsung Galaxy A6 design is quite different from the Galaxy A8. Though they both have the usual front and back glass with aluminum frame. The Samsung Galaxy A8 is bulky measuring 8.4mm in thickness. While the Samsung Galaxy A6 is slimmer measuring 7.7mm in thickness. The fingerprint sensor is rear-mounted on both the Samsung Galaxy A6 and A8. And also the rear camera and LED flash is aligned at the top-middle on both devices.

The Samsung Galaxy A8 is available in Black, Orchid Grey, Gold and Blue body colors. While the Samsung Galaxy A6 comes in Black, Gold, Blue and Lavender body colors. The Samsung Galaxy A8 is resistant to water and dust with an IP68 certified rating. While the Samsung Galaxy A6 is yet to undergo the testing.

The Samsung Galaxy A6 and A8 feature the same 5.6 inches Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen. With the Samsung Galaxy A8 having a better display resolution of 1080 x 2220 pixels and 441 PPI density. While the Samsung Galaxy A6 comes with a reduced display resolution of 720 x 1480 pixels and 294 PPI density. Samsung really messed up the resolution of Galaxy A6, 720 x 1480 pixels is just too poor for a phone of its caliber.

The rear camera shooter on both the Galaxy A6 and A8 sports a resolution of 16 megapixels with f/1.7 aperture. While the front-facing shooter is where the Samsung Galaxy A8 clearly dominates the Galaxy A6. The Samsung Galaxy A8 sports a dual front camera with 16MP f/1.9 aperture and 8MP f/1.9 aperture. For all those selfie lovers, the Samsung Galaxy A8 is your best bet. The Samsung Galaxy A6 houses a front camera lens with a resolution of a 16MP f/1.9 aperture. The Samsung Galaxy A6 features a front LED flash. Which is not available on the Samsung Galaxy A8.

Samsung Galaxy A6 VS Samsung Galaxy A8 – Hardware and Software

The Samsung Galaxy A8 is superior to the Galaxy A6. And the hardware department buttresses that statement. The Samsung Galaxy A8 is powered by Exynos 7885 chipset which carries Octa-core 2.2GHz processor. While the Samsung Galaxy A6 is powered by Exynos 7870 chipset carrying Octa-core 1.6GHz processor.

Luckily for the Samsung Galaxy A6, it runs on Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box. While the Samsung Galaxy A8 runs on Android 7.1.1 Nougat out of the box. The Samsung Galaxy A8 comes with a 4GB RAM with either 32GB or 64 GB internal storage. While the Samsung Galaxy A6 comes in two variants; 3GB RAM with 32GB ROM and 4GB RAM with 64GB ROM.

The Samsung Galaxy A6 and Galaxy A8 have the same non-removable Li-Ion 3000 mAh battery. The only difference is that the Samsung Galaxy A8 supports fast battery charging while the Galaxy A6 doesn’t.

The Samsung Galaxy A6 is available for around $371 (N129,850). While the Samsung Galaxy A8 is sold at around $514 (N179,900). The display resolution of the Samsung Galaxy A6 is really a letdown. The Samsung Galaxy A8 has a good display, camera and hardware features.
