Last year’s iPhone X has outperformed iPhone Xs and Xs Max in battery life

Tom’s Guide has released test results that compared the battery life of the new iPhones Xs and Xs Max against different types of smartphones. And the results will certainly surprise.

Both Apple’s flagship models failed not only to exceed but not reach the level of iPhone X introduced last year. The same stress test was used, which included continuous surfing on the web using a 4G connection. The displays were set to a 150-degree backlight level with auto-backlighting and TrueTone off.

The iPhone XS Max in this test lasted 10 hours and 38 minutes. The iPhone Xs has only managed 9 hours and 41 minutes. These results do not match the iPhone X, which reached the same test for 10 hours and 49 minutes (tested last year).

In terms of competition, the XS XS and XS Max dropped the HTC U12 + (9 hours and 13 minutes) and the LG G7 ThinQ (8 hours and 35 minutes). Unfortunately, both new iPhones were dropped in the Android flagship category. For example, Google Pixel 2 lasted 12 hours and 9 minutes, and Samsung Galaxy Note 9 could last for 11 hours and 26 minutes. The overall winner that boasts the best battery life is the Huawei P20 Pro. This smartphone has mastered 14 hours and 13 minutes.

Apple said that the iPhone XS can withstand up to 12 hours of Internet usage (also the same iPhone number last year). The iPhone XS Max should last up to 13 hours in one full charge. But the battery performance can be very distorted by many factors, such as OS, hardware optimization, data usage, etc. For this reason, Apple offers only very approximate numbers.

iFixit split up two Apple flags a few days ago and confirmed the new L-coke battery design for the Xs. The iPhone Xs Max has a split battery (two parts). The Internet has also revealed documents that pretend that the battery capacity in the iPhone Xs is 2,658 mAh at 3.81V, and the iPhone Xs Max is 3.174 mAh at 3.80V.

For comparison, last year’s iPhone X had a battery capacity of 2,716 mAh at 3.81V. But Apple still claims that the new iPhone Xs will last 30 minutes longer than last year’s model, and the iPhone Xs Max will last even an hour longer than iPhone X.
