Lava Z80 – Review
The Z80 is a low range smartphone from Lava offering quality value for little money. The smartphone was made for the Indian market and retails for 9000 INR, that’s about $144. Design
From afar, it looks like a Xperia smartphone from Sony with its strong overall unibody. The sleek smartphone might be cheap but it doesn’t give that away in its exquisite design. Available in only black, Lava Z80 exudes class and style in a metallic body. Sporting a bar shaped edge and giving an Xperia feel, the Z80 is a pleasure to hold.
Although it looks so plain at the back, it is still stunning and beautiful with a rear fingerprint scanner. The rear camera is located at the top left corner with the LED Flash under it, in a horizontal format. There’s a powerful speaker at the bottom of the device to around up the features at the back. It supports dual sim cards, a nano sim slot plus a micro sim slot and measures 8.1mm in thickness. Lava Z80 has a smooth and attractive body no doubt, it weighs just 136.8g which is very light and comfortable.
Display
First of all, i can see the three navigation buttons at the huge bottom bezels which is really disturbing. But lets keep in mind the Lava Z80 is a low range device, so bezels are expected. Lava could only get to 63.5% screen-to-body ratio with the Z80 leaving room for lots of bezels. The upper bezel on the screen houses the selfie camera, a front LED Flash and other sensors.
The 5-inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen is like the average 5-inch screen with 720 x 1280 pixels in resolution. It has extremely tiny narrow bezels so the visuals should be attractive in landscape mode. Keeping the details on the screen sharp and clear is a pixel per inch density of 294.

Hardware and Software
Under the hood is the Mediatek MT6737 chipset and a Quad-core Cortex-A53 processor with a speed of 1.3 GHz. Giving the device a standard performance just like other low range smartphones. But surprisingly, it boasts of 3GB RAM space for multitasking and quick Apps launching. You would hardly see a smartphone below $149 with 3GB RAM, so this is impressive no doubt.
The Mali-T720MP2 processing unit is in charge of everything graphics here. While there’s a 16GB internal storage space on the Z80 to store all your favorite Apps and games. You can also insert a microSD in the Sim slot 2 and upgrade up to 64GB for more space. Lava Z80 runs on Android 7.0 Nougat OS with s beautifully modified UI.
Camera
The 8MP rear camera on this baby with f/2.0 aperture will definitely surprise you. Take your photography prowess to the next level and capture beautiful portraits and images with the Lava Z80. It sports a rear LED flash as well, to help in low light environments and extremely dark places.
For selfies, it sports a 5MP selfie camera with f/2.0 aperture as well, and a LED flash. The front LED flash will help take beautiful selfies and beautify your face even in dark places.
Battery
Lava Z80 is powered by a 2500mAh Li-Po battery that is removable. Look at the bright side though, at least you can easily change it when it gets weak.
