LG G5 receives the update to Android 8.0 Oreo with the patches of August (in Korea)

LG G5, the former top-of-the-South Korean company, has now begun to receive the update to Android 8.0 Oreo. LG launched the G5 in February 2016 with Optimus UI 5.0 based on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow.

In November of that year, the phone received an update to Android 7.0 Nougat. LG G5 is one of the few models with more than two years of age that are receiving Android Oreo. A choice that has left little perplexed many experts in the field, given that Google is pressing on the spread of Android 9.0 Pie to its OEM partners.

According to reports from users on the famous XDA developer forum, the Android OS update for LG G5 is starting to spread in South Korea. It comes with the August Android security patch and improves the camera experience with the new filters. In addition, the update features some improvements on the front of the interface, including updated screen navigation keys that can now be hidden while using apps and adaptive icons. LG has also provided some specific improvements that increase battery life. In addition, the Sony LDAC codec is now supported for compatible Bluetooth headsets.

In addition to changes from LG, the Android 8.0 Orao update for LG G5 offers different features related to this version of the green robot. This is, in particular, the Picture-in-Picture (PiP) mode, the Notification Channels, and the Intelligent Text Selection.

One of the first users who received the Android Oreo update on their LG G5 has posted a video on YouTube to show interface-level changes. The video also highlights the updated camera app.

LG has not revealed its plans for the release of the Android 8.0 Oreo update for the G5 outside of South Korea – however, the update should soon reach the international markets. Since April, the company has launched its “Software Upgrade Center” office in South Korea, specifically designed to provide users with “faster and more timely” software updates.

For Korean users, you can check the availability of the Android 8.0 Oreo update on your LG G5 by going to Settings> Update Center.
