The Nokia 8 Sirocco was launched yesterday in Barcelona as the 2018 Mobile World Congress officially kicks off. The device was launched alongside Nokia 1, Nokia 6 (2018) and Nokia 7 Plus. But all eyes was on the Nokia 8 Sirocco, an Android One smartphone with a full glass body.
The Flagship device comes with a P-OLED display and a Zeiss dual rear camera. Boasting of 6GB RAM, 128GB internal storage space and the Snapdragon 835 chip from Qualcomm. The Sirocco edition of the Nokia 8 might just be a total package. However, lets take a thorough review of the specs before making that decision.
Design
A combination of Aluminum Alloy, Metal and Stainless Steel here, the Nokia 8 Sirocco is not only powerful on the inside but beautiful on the outside as well. Sports a rear fingerprint scanner at the middle, which is just on top the Nokia engraving. The Android One inscription is also at the bottom corner making the collaboration known.
One of its highlights is the vertical Zeiss dual rear camera at the top middle, it comes with a dual-LED flash as well. The device is IP67 certified, making it partially dust and water-resistant. Moving on to the sides, it has no 3.5 mm jack anywhere, which might be a bummer to many. Nevertheless, it measures 7.5 mm slim and covered in glass. It’s available in only Black at the moment, no words yet if Nokia would be releasing more colors soon.
Display
The curved screen on this baby is absolutely breathtaking, definitely the best screen I’ve seen on a Nokia smartphone. The bezels are very minimal, looking like the Galaxy Note 8 from the front. The top bezel houses the selfie camera, speaker grille and ambient light sensor.
The 5.5-inch QHD P-OLED capacitive touchscreen boasts of a resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels and 534 pixel per inch density. Experience impressive visuals with the Nokia 8 Sirocco. The 3D curved glass screen is protected by the Corning Gorilla Glass 5, offering scratch resistant. Overall the brilliant screen got up to 81.3% screen to body ratio, competing with the likes of Samsung Galaxy S8 and iPhone X.
Hardware and Software
Behind this beauty is a beast, the Snapdragon 835 chip from Qualcomm has an Octa-core processor. The processor reaches a clock speed of 2.45 GHz, with 64-bit CPU architecture and 10nm process technology. In the graphics department, the Adreno 540 graphics processor from Qualcomm is in control clocking at 710 MHz.
A gaming device it is, the Nokia 8 comes with 6GB RAM space for heavy multitasking, it boasts of a memory speed of 1.866 GHz. For storage, 128GB is available with UFS2.1, offering more storage space. You can easily upgrade up to 256GB if you need more space using the SIM slot 2. Nokia 8 Sirocco runs on Android 8.0 Oreo operating system with Lumia-like interface.
Camera
For photography, the dual rear 13MP + 12MP camera has a f/1.8 aperture capturing 4K resolution images and videos. The 13MP Samsung S5K2L7 ISOCELL shooter has a Carl Zeiss Lens and boasts of 1.12µm pixel size, 78.2 degree wide-angle lens and other features.
While the 12MP Samsung S5K3M3 ISOCELL shooter has a 1.0um pixel size and 47.3 degree wide-angle lens. Both will be working together to capture pictures with 4032 x 3024 pixels in dimension. At the front, there’s a 5MP with Samsung BSI CMOS Sensor, 1.4um pixel size and f/2.0 aperture. The selfie camera boasts of a 78.4˚ wide angle lens, phase detection and uses the display flash for dark places.
Battery
Powering the Nokia 8 Sirocco up is a 3260mAh non-removable Li-Po battery with Qi wireless charging and Quick Charge 4.0.
