Although smartphones with higher refresh rates have been around for a while now, many OEMs are yet to adopt it or optimize it for gaming either. However, OnePlus has fully utilized the faster display on the OnePlus 8 to enable it to become the first smartphone to play Fortnite at 90fps.
You can’t make a list of the most popular video games in the world right now and leave Fortnite out. The game is a battle royale game except it offers gameplay in a different and rather cartoonish way. It is also up there with the likes of PUBG. With higher refresh rates, gamers can now have a slight edge on other players they battle with. If you didn’t know, a higher refresh rate results in a lesser input lag. This means that the actions you make are implemented on the screen faster. Although the difference is in milliseconds, it just might be what makes the difference in a first-person shooter game.
However, even though the OnePlus 8 is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 chipset and an Adreno 650 graphics processor, users can only play the game at 90fps when the graphics settings are set to “low.” This means you will have to make a compromise in visual quality to get improved performance. It does make up for it, anyway.
