Quick Charge 5.0 can support 32W fast charging, 15W wireless charging

Qualcomm’s next-generation charging technology will be called Quick Charge 5.0, which will support 32-watt charging, 15-watt wireless charging and will likely be available on the upcoming Snapdragon 855 chipset.

Quick Charge is a fast charging technology from Qualcomm and currently, QC 4+ technology is available on smartphone models using the Snapdragon 660, Snapdragon 670, Snapdragon 710 and Snapdragon 845 smartphones. Qualcomm’s recent 4G / 5G Summit, which is currently developing the Quick Charge 5.0 charging technology, has a maximum capacity of up to 32W.

The latest version of Quick Charge is now QC 4+ and supports 18W fast charger. Competitive technologies such as Huawei ‘s SuperCharge have up to 40W of charge capacity, OPPO ‘s Super VOOC supports up to 50W and Meizu’s mCharge technology allows for up to 55W charging. According to Qualcomm, the company’s next-generation rechargeable technology will support up to 32W of charge and 15W wireless charging. This technology is likely to be called Quick Charge 5.0.

Quick Charge 4+ is currently providing fast charging system by dividing into two power lines instead of one as before. This will help prevent the phone from overheating when it is charging fast. In addition, the QC 4+ charging technology also keeps the device cooler than 3 degrees Celsius during charging. It is 15% faster and 30% more energy efficient than its predecessor. Quick Charge 5.0 is similar, allowing the phone to support 32W fast charging without heat and is expected to come with more features than the QC 4+.

There are speculations that Quick Charge 5.0 will be available on the Snapdragon 855 (or Snapdragon 8150), which is expected to be available later this year. It remains unclear if this chip will be a 7nm SoC and will compete directly with other 7nm SoCs such as Apple A12 or Huawei’s Kirin 980.
