Redmi K20 & K20 Pro’s MIUI Will Not Be Monetised; Xiaomi Confirms

Redmi K20 and Redmi K20 Pro are the latest phones of Xiaomi Redmi. These devices are affordable flagship phones priced at Rs 21,999 for the K20 standard edition and you need to pay Rs 27,999 for the Pro edition. Key highlights of Redmi K20 series includes a 6.39-inches Full HD+ AMOLED display with a screen resolution of 2280×1080 pixels, triple camera setup, in-display fingerprint sensor, pop-up selfie camera and a battery of 4000mAh with fast charge technology. Redmi K20 is powered by Snapdragon 730 and the Redmi K20 Pro is powered by Snapdragon 855. Both the phone will run on MIUI 10 based on Android Pie.

Xiaomi Redmi users are aware of the fact that Xiaomi shows ads across its custom MIUI. The company has also been criticised for doing this. But the latest news suggests that Redmi K20 and K20 Pro users will not be able to see ads.

Anuj Sharma, Head of Marketing, Xiaomi India said, “For a premium series, like the [Redmi] K-series that we are launching today, we are kind of looking at a different model here where these will not have ad-supported monetisation,”  Anuj said this during the launch event of Redmi K20 and Redmi K20 Pro held in New Delhi on Wednesday.

Anuj Sharma also made several important announcements during the launch event. According to him, monetizing custom MIUI or any other OS has been misunderstood or taken wrong by the people. OS is the first product which is built by the company. And there are hundreds of ways of monetizing it. Xiaomi includes MI Music, MI Video, MI Pay which is a UPI Platform and many other services in its custom MIUI. In order to run and maintain these services, the company needs the money and this is why the company has monetized its custom-designed MIUI.

Anuj also shared that Xiaomi is not the only company who is monetizing it’s OS. But there exists a large number of brands doing this. However, Xiaomi has accepted it officially that they monetize their custom MIUI but the reality is that we don’t find many other companies doing it.
