The European company launched the RugGear RG850 at the 2018 Mobile World Congress. According to RugGear, the device is the “world’s first bezel-less rugged phone running on Android 8.1 Oreo”.

Design
A solid smartphone, made completely from Polycarbonate and designed to perfection. The body has beautiful rugged lines at the back, once you hold it you’ll know you’re holding a rock. The IP68 certified device offers scratch and water-resistant up to 30 minutes underwater.
There’s a single rear camera at the top left for photography with a LED flash underneath for night shots. Bummer, it has bo fingerprint scanner unlike most rugged smartphones. Turning over to the side, it measures 12.5 mm in thickness which is even slim for a rugged smartphone.
Display
Holding the title of the world’s first bezel-less rugged smartphone, according to the company. Falls won’t crack this bezel-less beauty unlike other bezel-less phones. Dishing out an 18:9 aspect ratio and reaching 68.2% screen to body ratio, making it partially bezel-less.
Additionally, it has no physical navigation buttons on the bottom bezel like most rugged phones. The top bezel houses the selfie camera, speaker grille and another RugGear logo at the left corner. The 5.99-inch HD+ IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen displays like a budget phone. Boasting of just 720 x 1440 pixels in resolution and 269 pixel per inch density.
Hardware and Software
It houses the Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 chip with 64-bit CPU architecture and 8-cores of processor. The Octa-core processor reaches a maximum clock speed of 1.4 GHz. In the graphics department, the Qualcomm Adreno 505 graphics processor is totally in charge with a 28nm process technology.
3GB of RAM is available for smooth multitasking and it reaches a memory speed of 800MHz for fast app launching. Store anything you want in the 32GB internal storage space, you can upgrade up to 128GB if you want as well. The RG850 runs smoothly on Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box.
Camera
Just a single camera here, the 12MP rear camera should not be underestimated. It captures 4K resolution images, while other features on the camera should help in bringing out the beauty in the photographs. Take photos with 4032 x 3024 pixels in dimension with the RugGear RG850. Record videos of 1080 pixels at 30 frames per second and capture stunning selfies with the 8MP selfie camera.
Battery
Powering the RugGear RG850 is a 4000mAh non-removable Li-Po battery with fast charging technology. With the fast charging feature, it shouldn’t take more than 2.5 hours to fully charge up the battery from 0% to 100%.
