Samsung Galaxy J5 Prime gets the update to Android 8.0 Oreo

The rumor seems to have found confirmation. Samsung Galaxy J5 Prime has indeed started to receive the update to Android 8.0 Oreo. The mobile software market has seen the release of the final build of Android Pie last month, but currently, the availability is limited to the range of Google Pixel smartphones and tablets, in addition to Essential Phone.

While OEM partners have announced the launch of the latest Android version for their devices, Samsung is succeeding in launching Android Oreo on many of its smartphones.

Earlier this month, many sites reported that Samsung Galaxy J7 Nxt and Galaxy J5 Prime would receive the expected update by September, while the Samsung Galaxy J7 (2016) would be upgraded to Android Oreo later (in December, ed). The Seoul giant has kept its promise, as it has just started distributing the Android 8.0 Oreo update to Samsung Galaxy J5 Prime users after releasing the Android 8.1 Oreo update on Galaxy J7 Nxt.

The news was reported by the SamMobile site, which can be considered an extremely reliable source. The rollout was only launched in the United Arab Emirates, but it is expected that it will soon reach other countries too, albeit gradually. The update is, in fact, coming through OTA – in case it has not already received the notification, every user can manually verify the presence of the update in Settings.

We recommend that you back up your data before proceeding with the upgrade and use high-speed data or Wi-Fi connectivity to download. Furthermore, it appears that the update will arrive with the latest security patch for September 2018.

As many will remember, the Samsung Galaxy J5 Prime was initially launched in 2016. Earlier this year a new variant with 32 GB of storage was announced. The smartphone, launched with Android 6.0 Marshmallow, received the update to Android 7.0 Nougat last October.

In terms of specifications, Galaxy J5 Prime is powered by a Samsung Exynos 7870 processor, combined with 3GB of RAM and expandable storage via microSD card (up to 256GB). The smartphone also features a 5-inch HD display. As for the photo compartment, the phone is equipped with a 13-megapixel autofocus rear camera with aperture f / 1.9 and an LED flash, while in front we find an 8-megapixel camera. Finally, the handset is equipped with a 2.400 mAh battery.
