Samsung Sound On Display, after the camera, the speaker will be integrated into the screen?

Over the months, the new trend in the global smartphone market has become increasingly clear. The goal is to have full-screen smartphones with very fine frames if not, even, non-existent. And you know, as long as the first producer launches something innovative that is successful because the same path is followed by others.

Remember, for example, the famous notch that debuted with iPhone X? Well since that time it has become daily bread for all the main OEMs, except SamsungNow the displays are without a notch, with the highest possible screen/body ratio, and with everything integrated. We are talking about a 360-degree integration that could reach its highest level in 2024 thanks to Samsung, one of the most desired smartphone brands in the world.

The South Koreans, in fact, seem willing to present, on the occasion of the CES 2019, the new OLED SoD displays, or Sound on Display. A term that perhaps not everyone has heard until now but that identifies precisely what you are imagining. It will be a display that will produce sound because it will have a built-in speaker. Goodbye forever, therefore, to speakers as we know them.

This again means an increase in the space available for the display, which can become increasingly the undisputed protagonist of every smartphone. The sounds, in Samsung’s SoD panels, will be produced thanks to the combination of special technologies able to transmit clear and clear sounds. A sort of prototype had already been seen in the spring of this year at the SID Display Week and consisted of a 6.22-inch display with integrated speaker.

Samsung’s new display will almost certainly be presented at CES 2019 but we have no idea when it will come on the market. We know that LG is trying to implement these displays in their future smartphone but there is no official confirmation of all this. One thing, however, seems almost obvious.

The presentation at CES 2019 makes the use of SoDs unlikely in 2024, so the new technology could only be marketed at the beginning of 2020. It is therefore quite far away so we have only to wait for the future and, certainly interesting, updates.
