There’s now no doubt that Sony would be unveiling two smartphones very soon based on a statement attributed to the company in May. Its next flagship devices would be expected to succeed the Xperia XZ Premium and further outdo it regarding specs, especially in the hardware department and design. Rumours do have it that the flagship devices which we all can’t wait to see have already been dubbed the Sony Xperia XZ1 and Xperia XZ1 Compact (a slight downgrade of the former).
From press renders and certain leaks that have surfaced, we can highlight the features that should be expected of both devices. On this post, we would be looking at the Xperia XZ1 only.
Sony Xperia XZ1 Specifications, Review and Highlights
Display
Based on rumours, the Sony Xperia XZ1 will feature a 5.2-inch display size, although in some corners there have been talks of a 6-inch screen. The Xperia XZ Premium offers a 4k HDR display, so it is most likely the Xperia XZ1 tows a similar line, with X-Reality and Triluminous. Also in line is Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection.
Design
The design of the Xperia XZ1 bears similarity to that of the Xperia XZ Premium. The smartphone has its power button mounted to its right side, and it is thought to have a fingerprint sensor embedded. Meanwhile, Sony still sticks to its slim side bezels and large top and bottom bezels on this one. The Xperia XZ1 has IP68 ratings for water resistance, meaning users shouldn’t begin to panic when their smartphone drops into water not more than 1.5meters.
Camera
Sony’s super-slow motion video feature was one of the reasons the XZ Premium stood out so seeing it in a feature in the Xperia XZ1 wouldn’t be much of a surprise. A 19MP camera with Exmos RS sensor, 1/2.3″ sensor, f/2.0 lens, predictive capture feature should be in place in the rear while on the front, there could be a 13MP camera with 1/3″ Eexmos RS sensor and 22mm wide-angle f/2.0 lens.
Hardware & Battery
Sony’s Xperia XZ1 should undoubtedly carry Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 processor. This conclusion comes on the back of Sony’s flagcship devices over the years featuring Qualcomm processors. It is expected to come with 4GB of RAM and 64GB internal storage with an offer to expand storage using a MicroSD also in the bag. A battery 300mAh in capacity will reportedly follow with fast charging functionality along with Sony’s Stamina mode and Qnovo’s Adaptive charging.c
Software
In the software department for the Sony Xperia XZ1, Android Nougat 7.1.1 out of the box is the most thinkable option with Sony’s software on top. This would make it almost identical to its predecessor regarding software, although a few twists and tweaks could come with it.
These details remain rumours and would be confirmed when Sony finally announces the flagship devices at IFA 2017.
