It was reported a few weeks ago that Huawei is currently working on its own operating system and it plans to call it HongMeng OS in China and Ark OS in other parts of the world. In fact, this system has already passed the trademark certification of the Chinese Trademark Office as and the European Intellectual Property Office as well.
According to recent reports, Huawei applied for a smartphone interface patent which was named “Huawei Ark OS”, “Ark” and “Huawei Ark” in the German Patent and Trademark Office in back in March. Included in the patent application were a number of screenshots. However, we are not sure whether the screenshots were from the OS which Huawei plans to release.
In one of the screenshots, the phrase “Android Green Alliance.” This could probably mean that the OS which Huawei plans to release could be compatible with Android apps. Android Green Alliance is jointly launched by Huawei, Alibaba, Tencent, and Netease. The aim of the alliance is to create a safe, reliable and healthy application ecosystem. Many companies have already joined the alliance. Before now, there was a statement made by Yu Chengdong where he said that Huawei OS will be compatible with smartphones, computer, tablet, TV, car, smart wear, and more systems.
According to the latest report from Global Times, the operating system would be called “HongMeng OS” in China but in other markets, it would be called “Oak OS. Global Times also said, ‘Huawei is intensively testing its own operating system, to be named “HongMeng OS” for China market or “Oak OS” for the overseas market, which is likely to be launched in August or September, sources say.’
Google, on the other hand, has warned the US government that there could be devastating consequences from the Huawei’s ban as it has encouraged Huawei to develop its own operating system. If the OS being developed by Huawei is successful, Google’s Android will definitely lose some patronage especially from the many Chinese smartphone makers which will, in turn, compromise the national interests of the US.
