The Xiaomi Mi 5X was released in July 2017 and ended up being a successful mid-range smartphone in China. The smartphone reportedly sold over 300,000 units on its first sale day. Now we see why the Chinese OEM company are coming back with a successor to the Mi 5X. The Xiaomi Mi 6X is also a mid-range smartphone just like its predecessor.
At the event where the Xiaomi Mi 6X was launched, the company claimed the smartphone is the cheapest Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 powered phone. But being a mid-range device means the upgrade will be limited. We already know the chipset is advanced to the one that powers the Xiaomi Mi 5X. So what other areas of specs and features have Xiaomi improved in the Xiaomi Mi 6X?
Xiaomi Mi 6X VS Xiaomi Mi 5X – The Design
The Xiaomi Mi 6X and Mi 5X measure almost the same in dimensions. The Xiaomi Mi 5X sizes up to 155.4 x 75.8 x 7.3 mm while the Xiaomi Mi 6X comes in 158 x 75.4 x 7.3 mm. Only 3 grams differentiate them in weight, with the Xiaomi Mi 5X weighing 165 grams. While the Xiaomi Mi 6X weighs 168 grams.
The dual camera set-up at the back has also been re-positioned. While the Xiaomi Mi 5X sports a horizontal dual rear camera set-up at the top-left. The dual rear camera set-up of the Xiaomi Mi 6X is now in a vertical direction also at the top-left of the device. The rear-mounted fingerprint sensor in the Xiaomi Mi 5X remains unchanged in the Mi 6X.
No ceramic or glass back for the Xiaomi Mi 6X. It features the same front glass and aluminum back like the Xiaomi Mi 5X. Xiaomi added a Pink color variant for the Xiaomi Mi 6X along with the Red, Gold, Blue and Black body colors found on the Xiaomi Mi 5X.
Xiaomi Mi 6X VS Xiaomi Mi 5X – The Display
The Xiaomi Mi 6X follows the latest industry trend by featuring a near bezel-less display. While the Xiaomi Mi 5X comes with large bezels at the top and bottom. The bottom bezel of the Xiaomi Mi 5X houses the capacitive touch keys. While on the Xiaomi Mi 6X, the capacitive touch keys have been moved to on-screen. The top and bottom bezels have been reduced to optimize the display size for the Xiaomi Mi 6X. Which is why the Xiaomi Mi 6X features a larger 5.99-inch capacitive touchscreen as opposed to a 5.5-inch capacitive touchscreen on the Mi 5X.
The Xiaomi Mi 6X’s display resolution is slightly better to the Mi 5X. The Xiaomi Mi 5X packs a 1080 x 1920 pixels resolution with 403 PPI density. While the Xiaomi Mi 6X packs a 1080 x 2160 pixels resolution with 403 PPI density. The Corning Gorilla glass protects the screen of both devices.

In the camera department, the Xiaomi Mi 6X carries an upgrade to the Xiaomi Mi 5X. The dual rear camera lens of the Xiaomi Mi 5X carries a 12 mega-pixels sensor on both lenses. With a poor aperture of f/2.2 and f/2.6. While on the Xiaomi Mi 6X dual rear camera lens, is a 12 mega-pixels Sony IM486 sensor and 20 mega-pixels sensors. Both lenses feature the same f/1.8 aperture.
At the front camera, the Xiaomi Mi 6X’s lens features a 20 mega-pixels Sony IM376 sensor with f/1.8 aperture. While the Xiaomi Mi 5X houses a 5 megapixels shooter.

The Xiaomi Mi 6X comes with RAM variants of 4GB and 6GB RAM. And storage variants of 64GB and 128GB. While the Xiaomi Mi 5X comes with just a 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage.
