Acer Swift 7 – World’s thinnest laptop at 9.98mm launched in India

Acer has launched the Acer Swift 7, the world’s thinnest laptop which was first seen at the IFA 2016 event earlier in August. The Acer Swift 7 has dethroned the likes of the Apple MacBook Air and HP Spectre, both of which have enjoyed that role for a short while, having a thickness of 17mm and 10.4mm respectively.

We thought we had seen it all until Acer decided to join the super-slim club with the new Swift 7, a 13.3-inch clam shell laptop that measures just 9.98mm thick and weighs a mere 1.1 kg. Acer says that the Swift 7 is the first laptop to get below the one-centimetre mark. It was announced at the IFA in August and it is extremely stylish with a gold inner surface and a matte black aluminium exterior.

Display and Design

The Acer Swift 7 sports a 13.3-inch Full HD display with a 1920 * 1080 pixel resolution. The display uses the IPS display technology with a micro-bezel and Corning Gorilla Glass 5 for protection. The Acer Swift 7 comes in a black-and-gold design which gives it a strikingly unique identity in the world of laptops. It does not feature the touchscreen ability, hence the reason why the screen is not as thick as that of HP’s Spectre.

The Acer Swift 7 has an all-metal Aluminium unibody design and, has a thickness of 9.8mm and weighs about 1.1kgs. It is so slim you may forget that you are carrying a delicate gadget; very easy to move around.

Memory & Performance

The Acer Swift 7 is powered by a 7th Generation 1.2 GHz Intel Core i5-7Y54 processor with Intel HD Graphics 615 which is not bad for a graphic designer. It packs an 8 GB LPDDR3 RAM and supports 256GB SSD memory. I’m curious as to why Acer went for a 256GB SSD compared with the size of the RAM; surely they could come up with a bigger SSD size.

Battery

The Acer Swift 7 has a 4-cell 2770mAh battery that is designed to give up to 9 hours of battery life.

Connectivity

The Acer Swift 7 connects to the internet over a wireless connection via its Wi-Fi 802.11ac bands. It also comes with a Low Energy Bluetooth 4.1 which can be used for device-to-device transfer. It supports WLAN, hence internet connection can be shared via Wi-Fi.

The Swift 7 has two USB Type-C 3.1 (Gen 1) ports on-board which can be used to transfer and share files and documents.

Camera

The world’s thinnest laptop comes along with an HDR-enabled webcam, and although the actual resolution is not known yet, there’s a strong guess that it should be around 720-pixels, a typical webcam resolution for most Acer laptops.
