Joining the league of smartphone makers with dual rear camera devices is Blackview. The Blackview A9 Pro is the company’s first device with a dual rear camera setup. Currently selling for less than $120 in most online stores, the Blackview A9 Pro offers promise as Blackview plan to take a piece of the dual camera market cake. They’ve even gone on to release a video showcasing the awesomeness of the cameras and touts the A9 Pro as a worthy competitor to the iPhone 7 Plus.
So, do you think this device can stand against the almighty iPhone 7 Plus? Well, you’ll get to know by the end of this review.
Design & Display
The Blackview A9 Pro sports a 5-inch AUO display with the now-usual 2.5D curved glass. The smartphone is made with aluminum with a rubber finish. On a cursory look, the device looks a lot like Xiaomi’s Mi5c. The Blackview A9 Pro comes in colors of champagne gold, matte black, iron blue and pearl white.
Screen resolution on the Blackview A9 Pro is 1280 x 720 pixels, giving a pixel density of 294PPI. As a result, the color reproduction and image quality on this device is pretty nice.
Hardware, OS & Performance
Under the hood is a MediaTek MT6737 SoC that houses a quad core CPU clocked at 1.3GHz and a Mali-T720 GPU. The chipset also includes a 2GB RAM chip and 16GB internal storage, which can be expanded via microSD card.
There is a fingerprint sensor embedded on the home button at the front of the phone. This fingerprint sensor supports up to 5 different fingerprints and can recognize 360-degree fingerprint placements.
Before I forget, the Blackview A9 Pro has a USB type-C port at the bottom for faster data transfers as well as a shorter charging time.
The Blackview A9 Pro runs on the latest Android 7.0 Nougat OS (out-of-the-box) that offers a lot of exciting features including a multi-window app feature for running multiple apps side-by-side on the same screen.
Cameras
Yes, this is the center of attention for the Blackview A9 Pro. With a dual camera setup at the back featuring an 8MP and 0.3MP combination, you can capture images with a depth of field effect that makes out-of-focus images blur out in a photo – the “bokeh” effect. There is also two LED flashlights present at the back for taking photos in low-light conditions.
At the front, you’ll find a 2MP selfie camera.
Battery
The Blackview A9 Pro is powered by a 3000mAh battery. This ensures that the user gets enough time while using the device. For the size of the display (5”), this battery capacity is quite adequate – that’s if you are an average or light user. And if you wish to know, the battery is non-removable.
