The BQ Mobile BQ5003L Shark Pro is quite a Shark alright and one of the most affordable rugged smartphone ever. BQ Mobile are known for making budget smartphones, but they went a step further with this one.
The Shark Pro is one of those affordable rugged smartphone that anyone could easily afford. Packing 2GB RAM, 16GB Storage and 3200mAh battery. Without further ado, meet the BQ Mobile BQ5003L Shark Pro.
Design
Purely rugged and strong, the BQ Mobile BQ5003L Shark Pro will definitely stand the test of time. It’s IP68 certified, offering dust and water-resistant of under 1.5 metres underwater and not more than 30 minutes. A combination of Plastic and Polycarbonate here, well but mostly plastic though.
I still don’t know how BQ Mobile did it, but even with much plastic it’s still water-resistant and totally rugged. The rear camera is at the upper plastic design with dual-LED flash by the side. Turning over to the sides, it’s very bulky, measuring 13.9mm slim and weighing an astonishing 224g. You have to look elsewhere if you are into bright colors as it’s only available in Black.
Display
Packs lots of bezels as expected but the screen isn’t octagon shaped like its body. No physical navigation buttons at the bottom bezel, while the speaker grille, ambient light sensor and selfie camera is at the top.
Overall, the screen could only get to 57% screen to body ratio, which is pretty disappointing. Speaking of screens, the 5-inch HD IPS capacitive touchscreen displays as expected. Boasts of 1280 x 720 pixels in resolution, and 294 pixel per inch density for clear visuals. The screen has full lamination technology, with a Corning Gorilla Glass protecting it.
Hardware and Software
Running the race here is the MediaTek MT6737 chip with 4-cores of processor and 64-bit CPU architecture. The quad-core processor reaches a clock speed of 1.3GHz and boasts of a 28nm process technology. Handling graphics is the ARM Mali-T720 MP2 graphics processor, comes with a single core and clocks at 600MHz.
For multitasking, 2GB RAM space is available for smooth multitasking. The RAM space has a memory speed of 640MHz for a fast ride through apps. 16GB is available in terms of storage, you can upgrade further up to 128GB using a memory card. The BQ5003L Shark Pro runs on Android 7.0 Nougat operating system.
Camera
For photography, the 8MP rear shooter might be a huge let down for a rugged smartphone. Capturing just 3K resolution images and recording HD videos. With the Shark Pro, you can capture photographs with 3264 x 2448 pixels in dimension. Take selfies with another 8MP selfie camera at the top bezel and record 1080 pixels videos at 30fps.
Battery
Powering the BQ Mobile BQ5003L Shark Pro is a 3200mAh non-removable Li-Po battery with no fast charging technology. Even without the fast charging feature, it shouldn’t take more than 2.5 hours to fully charge up the battery from 0% to 100%.
