In the rugged smartphones category, Cat smartphones are just one of the top smartphones. Well, that’s because Bullitt, its smartphone OEM takes the rugged game with seriousness. The British OEM has gone further to release another rugged smartphone called the Cat S61. The smartphone comes in with an in-built FLIR thermal camera that has the capacity to sense high temperatures to a tune of 400 degrees. The smartphone also has the Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) sensor that’s able to determine the air quality. Well, one of the primary rugged nature of the smartphone is its water-resistant and dust-resistant capability given the IP68 certification. It even has a drop-to-concrete resistance of about 1.8 m height. The list goes on and on, but for now, let’s get down to the full specs of the smartphone.
Design & Display
The smartphone comes with a protrusion which bears the CAT logo at the top right corner. The smartphone which has a rubber textured back and a metallic build simply has only Black color availability. The bottom bezel of the smartphone is occupied by physical keys that handle navigation while the right side of the smartphone holds the usual volume keys and power button. The top bezel houses the front camera, earpiece and ambient light sensor. At the back, the rear camera is located as well as a dual tone dual-LED flash. The CAT emblem also receives an appearance here. The smartphone’s dimensions are 150 mm length x 76 mm width x 13 mm thickness.
The display of the smartphone has a 5.2-inch display with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels. The pixel density of the smartphone pegs 424 PPI while the aspect ratio lays low at 16:9. Corning Gorilla Glass 5 gives the smartphone protection when it falls from high places.
Camera
The smartphone uses a rear 16 MP camera to take photos and record videos. The rear camera comes along with a dual tone dual-LED flash to brighten images taken in low light conditions. Features such as HDR, panorama, PDAF and auto focus are available on the camera’s build. The FLIR thermal camera is also another member of this department. The front camera on the other hand makes use of an 8 MP camera to take selfies.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 serves as the smartphone’s system-on-chip. The processor envelopes an octa-core ARM Cortex – A53 CPU that clocks at 2.2 GHz. The graphics on the smartphone is handled by the Qualcomm Adreno 508 GPU. Android Oreo OS runs as the smartphone’s software. The smartphone’s multitasking is discharged very well by the 4 GB RAM present. The storage of files have a 64 GB capacity to enjoy. The internal storage can be expanded to 256 GB with the use of a MicroSD card.
Battery
Cat S61 is powered by a non-removable 4,500 mAh battery that charges fast due to Qualcomm Quick Charge 4.0 technology on it.
