Essential Phone already receives the October security patches

There are many phones that have received security patches for the month of September, and some devices are already getting the October patches, which have been announced by Android in the past few hours.

Among these, there is also Essential Phone, one of the very first phones to receive the stable version of Android 9 Pie, the latest version of the operating system made by Google. The company itself has announced that its device is already receiving the update with the security patches of October.

Essential beat the competition by distributing Android updates on the same day that Google announced them. It is also true that it is simpler to proceed with an update when you have to deal with a single phone, as in this case, but should be given credit to the brand CEO Andy Rubin. Among other things, it is an update that does not bring only the patches, but also a feature previously removed.

Last August, Essential launched the Android Pie update but did not include Notch settings on the Android version of Oreo. These options let you customize the way apps use the notch status bar. The absence of this feature in the update to Android Pie seemed rather strange, also because Android 9 is the first version that officially supports the notches. Essential has reassured users, ensuring that the functionality would be reinserted with the next update – the company has kept its promise.

The OTA and fastboot files are already available for download. Essential Phone may not have the best hardware possible in the vast Android world, but super fast updates remain a very valid reason to use this phone. Recall that Essential Phone is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor, combined with an Adreno 540 GPU, 4 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal memory.
