Weighing less than 1kg, the Fujitsu LifeBook U937 is a serious business laptop. As with other LifeBook laptops, Fujitsu’s U937 is made for the “creme de la crème”. With many exciting features including a fingerprint reader/palm vein sensor, this laptop is made with security in mind.
Top class businessmen or women don’t want a heavy laptop; they also do not want a slow one, especially if they travel often. The Fujitsu LifeBook U937 laptop is a combination of ultra-portability, power, and slimness.
Design
Japanese manufacturer Fujitsu, fitted the LifeBook U937 into a compact casing for portability. This case looks durable and according to Fujitsu, they claim it is made from magnesium. Everything is set up like what you’ll find in conventional laptops – screen fitted in the upper half, keyboard and touchpad beneath in the lower half. Both halves are held together by a pair of hinges that allows the lid to be opened up to about 180 degrees. The unusual introductions are the smart card slot and fingerprint/palm vein sensor included.
As already stated, the LifeBook U937 comes in a thin and lightweight case. The device thickness stands at 15.5 mm and weighs only 950 grams. Consequently, these make the U937 one of the slimmest and lightest notebooks in the market. Other dimensions of this laptop are 309.3 mm width and 213.5 mm depth.
Display
A 13.3-inch IPS screen adorns the upper half of the LifeBook U937. The display is made by another Japanese manufacturer Sharp and has a maximum resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. Above this display is a 720p 1.2MP camera. While the base version of this laptop uses a non-gloss display, there is a version with a glossy touch-sensitive display.
Due to this screen’s good color reproduction, images look vivid and crisp. In addition, the screen has a viewing angle of 85 degrees on all sides with average response times.
Keyboard and Touchpad
The U937 keyboard affords comfortable typing for the user with the rather shallow 1.2 mm key travel and sufficient key spacing. Disappointingly, there is no backlighting for this keyboard. This omission may be the final deciding factor for buyers interested in getting this device considering its price. However, to probably make up for the absence of backlighting, the keyboard is spill-resistant.
Moving on, the touchpad of the Fujitsu LifeBook U937 seems to be an average one as it isn’t as precise as others found on similar notebooks. There are two mouse buttons beneath the touchpad limiting the gliding area.
Performance
A top-class business laptop needs a top-class processor for its operations. Fujitsu delivered well as they have fitted a seventh-generation CPU into the LifeBook U937. Noteworthy is the fact that the laptop comes in three CPU variants – a base model with Intel Core i5-7200U, another with a Core i5-7300U, and the highest with a Core i707600U CPU.
As this is not a gaming laptop, a dedicated high-end GPU isn’t necessary. Therefore, an integrated graphics chip is used; the Intel HD Graphics 620 which shares the system RAM runs graphics processing for the U937.
The RAM size is 4, 8 or 16 gigs while internal storage is 128GB, 256GB or 512GB SSD. When combined with the processor, this laptop should perform reasonably well for the majority of tasks. However, you shouldn’t expect the laptop to run intensive applications like graphically demanding games without any lagging.
Battery Life
According to the manufacturer, this laptop can last for up to 11 hours on a full charge thanks to its 4-cell 50Wh Li-ion battery. While this may be true on paper, real world usage will tend to be different.
Ports and Connectivity
Doubtless, by making a laptop as slim as the U937, some things have to give. Unfortunately, the ports are the culprits. Albeit that this laptop comes with the essential ports, they’re insufficient by today’s standards. That been said, you’ll find two USB 3.0 ports (one on each side), one USB type-C port (without Thunderbolt 3 support), a card reader, audio jack, and an HDMI port on this laptop.
Price and Availability
Customers can get the Fujitsu LifeBook U937 for about $1500 from leading stores online and offline.
