Galaxy J2 Core, FCC certified the first Android Go smartphone from Samsung

Samsung is expected to launch soon its first entry-level smartphone based on the Android Go platform, the optimized version of Android developed for cheap smartphones that offer minimal hardware performance. The device should be the Samsung phone with model number SM-J260G appeared on the Geekbench website a few weeks ago. If Samsung’s SM-J260G will actually be an Android Go phone we do not know, but according to  Sammobile, it will be with the commercial name  Galaxy J2 Core.

The same site then reported on May 15 that this phone will presumably be sold in four markets – India, Nepal, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. If the list is confirmed, it can be said that the smartphone is clearly destined to reach markets where there is a high demand for low-cost smartphones. However, the FCC certifications emerged on July 12 of four versions of the device, including dual-sim variants, (SM-J260G, SM-J260G / DS, SM-J260Y and SM-J260Y / DS) suggest that the smartphone will arrive in more markets, probably also in Italy.

The specifications associated with the Samsung SM-J260 emerged June 24 from the Techiedrive website, the smartphone comes with a 5-inch Super AMOLED display, quad-core Samsung Exynos 7570 1.4GHz chip, 1GB of RAM, 16GB of internal memory, cameras 8MP and 5MP, 2600mAh battery, Android 8.1 Oreo Go Edition operating system.

On the Geekbench the SM-J260G was archived with the reference “Universal7570_Go” and specifications including 1GB of RAM, Android 8.1 Oreo operating system, a processor with four Cortex-A53 cores at 1.43GHz.

Google introduced in 2024 the Android Go Edition program which includes the phones that run the optimized version of Android tailored for cheap smartphones with minimal hardware performance – like only 1GB of RAM – but they are able to offer an advanced mobile experience thanks to the full access to the Play Store with app reporting optimized for the platform (such as Google Go, Google Maps Go, Gmail Go, etc.) and the Google Play Protect security system. In addition, popular services such as Facebook have embraced the project by developing versions of their major mobile apps optimized for Go devices. During the Mobile World Congress 2018, some of the first smartphones were announced. to be launched globally with Android Oreo running (Go edition), a list that did not include Samsung models.
