Gionee – a Chinese smartphone brand known for its super slim devices, has just announced the release of its Gionee Marathon M5, the company’s latest smartphone in the M series, a smartphone that forgoes thinness in the name of battery life.

While most smartphone manufacturers are focusing more on displays and design rather than battery life, Gionee took a different approach with the Marathon M5. The phone is stuffed with a massive 6,020mAh battery, which break the smartphones record and is nearly uncommon in the smartphone world. The company actually stuffed two 3,010mAh battery cells on top of each other to give the phone its monster battery. The story doesn’t end with the battery size, however, Gionee boast that the Marathon M5 could last up to 3 days of standby with just 5% of power left in the device.

Aside the massive battery capacity, Gionee Marathon M5 run on the Android 5.1 (Lollipop) with Amigo UI 3.1 and also sports a massive screen display. It’s got a 5.5-inch having 1280x720pixel (~267 ppi pixel density) resolution AMOLED screen to round out the key specs. Marathon M5 measures a dimensions of 152 x 76 x 8.5 mm (5.98 x 2.99 x 0.33 in) and weigh 213 g (7.51 oz).

It has unibody metal build with a narrow frame and is just 8.5mm thick (4.75mm edge), even though it packs a huge battery. It has a 5.5-inch 720p Super AMOLED Plus display and is powered by a 1.5GHz quad-core MediaTek MT6735 64-bit processor.

It has a 13-megapixel rear camera with LED flash and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera. It has dual SIM support with 4G on both the slots. It has 2GB RAM and 16GB of internal storage with expansion slot. It gives support for USB OTG

Availability & Price

Gionee Marathon M5 is not yet available in Nigeria. The device has a price tag of 2299 Chinese Yuan ( US$ 370 / Rs. 23656 approx.). It will go on sale in China starting from June 25th.
