Google would also have been interested in GitHub, an online platform where developers can share parts of their code.
Eventually, the platform went to Microsoft because of the long-term relationship and negotiations, anonymous sources say to the American channel CNBC. Earlier Amazon also had interest in the platform.
On Monday it was announced that GitHub is in the hands of Microsoft. Over 27 million software developers work at GitHub on some 80 million repositories with code.
These repositories are repositories that developers can use in earlier versions of the software.
GitHub has not been able to make a profit since its foundation in 2008.
