How to separate emails that Gmail merges

Do you want to know how to separate the emails you receive grouped in the Gmail inbox? in this article we will see how to split 2 or more e-mail messages that are automatically merged if they have the same address.

Gmail is one of the most popular email clients. It is also one of the most complete thanks to its features and extensions with third party services.

But Gmail has a feature that not all users seem to like. We are talking about how the service groups email with the same address in the form of a conversation. Sometimes it can get confusing if we look for a specific email, which often gets lost among other emails received or sent.

Fortunately, Google has added a feature in Gmail where these conversations can be disabled. Gmail has long been allowing us to disable these grouped emails from the web version so that when we access our inbox from the web browser, these email conversations appear separate and we can treat them as if they were individual emails.

In addition, Google has also brought this functionality to Gmail applications for Android and iOS, being able to easily separate conversations to view separate messages from our mobile.

Next, we will see how this option of viewing grouped emails is disabled, both in the web version of Gmail and in the apps for Android and iOS.

How to separate emails that Gmail merges when we receive them

First, go to the main Gmail page and log in with your email address. Once in the mailbox, click on the gear you will find at the top. Enter the settings section by clicking on view all settings.

Scroll down in the “general” tab until you find the Conversation View item (allows you to determine if messages related to the same topic are grouped).

Two options will appear here. The first is to group emails as a conversation, which is established by default in all accounts.

The second option allows us to disable this grouping. To do this, simply click on the circle. Now go to the bottom of the page and click on “Save changes“.

How to disable conversation view in Gmail on Android/iOS

Until yesterday, when the option was disabled in the web version of the email client, these messages were still grouped as a conversation in the Gmail app.

Now Google has decided to bring this option to Android and iOS apps as well so that we can separate emails on our mobile devices.

All we have to do is open the Gmail app on our mobile, open the Settings window, choose our email address and, within our email options, disable the conversation view.

Once this option is deactivated, the messages will stop grouping in our mobile app as well. Of course, we must keep in mind that although this feature is already in the official Google documentation, for some users the option may not appear yet, so they will have to update the app in order to be able to turn off this conversation view in Android and iOS.
