We have seen Huawei facing so many ups and downs due to trading issues. Huawei has finally announced its long-rumoured Android alternative called Harmony OS during an event known as Huawei Developer Conference held in the city of Dongguan, China. People also called this os by other names like Hongmeng OS or Ark OS.
According to the company’s Business Group CEO Richard Yu, Harmony OS is faster and safe than Android. The Harmony OS has been under development since 2012 and the company’s primary aim was to try this os on IoT products such as smart displays, wearables, smart speakers etc instead of smartphones. But after predicting the future, the company transformed this OS to support multiple platforms.
The US trade ban on Huawei was also one of the major factors which forced the company to build a new OS for its smartphones.
Yu also said that when Huawei will be devoid from getting access to the Android ecosystem, the company will start deploying its Harmony OS.
The most surprising part is that the Harmony Os is going to be an open-source operating system. The company did this to increase its adoption. The open-source platform will allow the developers to understand this OS better and create software for this new OS.

Harmony OS is a micro-kernel based open-source modular operating system created by Huawei. According to the company, this OS is a way different than Android and iOS as its support for different kinds of devices. This OS is also considered to be faster & safer than Android. Due to its modular design, the developers need to create the software just once as Huwaei has “decoupled” the Harmony OS from the Hardware.
It is to be noted that the new Harmony OS doesn’t support Android apps initially, the developers need to recompile the apps to make them work in Harmony. It is also going to be a huge challenge for the company to urge the developers around the world to build an app ecosystem for this platform.
