Infinix Smart X5010 Review
Remember that sometime last month (July 2017), we announced the unveiling of a new mobile series (the Smart series) from Infinix Mobility. The Smart series joins the growing list of existing smartphone series under the Infinix imprint. There’s the Note series (with the Infinix Hot Note X551, Infinix Note 2, Infinix Note 3 and Note 3 Pro and the new Infinix Note 4 and Note 4 Pro as members), the Hot series (housing the Infinix Hot, the Android One Infinix Hot 2, Infinix Hot 3 and Hot 3 Pro, Infinix Hot 4 Lite, Hot 4 and Hot 4 Pro). Now the Smart series. We also highlighted the specifications of the newly launched smartphone from the new Smart series – the Infinix Smart X5010. But that was only a peek into the device. No let’s have a broader and closer look.
Before now, we did a short unboxing video on YouTube about this little baby where we gave a head about the phone’s features and what came with it in the box. If you haven’t watched the short video, then you need to do that now in order not to miss.
Before going deeper into the review, lets quickly take a recap of the pros and cons of the Infinix Smart smartphone:

THE GOOD
The Infinix “Smart” being a new line of another Infinix series seems to be different, you get to realize that is where much of the load on this smartphone is located. It’s major selling point is the frontal dual grand speakers positioned on the rear of the device. The Dirac Stereo Widening technology is one that optimizes sounds produced by the Infinix Smart by analyzing and correcting sound patterns to give the best audio output possible; both during music or video play. This, somehow, puts the Infinix Smart in the same category as the music-based Tecno Boom J8.
Infinix Mobility assures you a surround stereo system by Dirac that makes you enjoy quality & remarkable sounds Form The Device, Mind you Infinix Smart (X5010) comes with a Dual Speaker at the front.
This amazing stereo system from Infinix really zeros the need to use earphones or headsets to play music or watch movies. No wonder it came with a simple ear piece. Crisp sound production is a certainty on the Infinix Smart. Isn’t that the joy of every movie lover???
Likewise, the location and positioning of the dual speakers is an amazing design innovation. One speaker is directly above the display screen, the second speaker is directly beneath the display. The speaker positions will ensure a balance in the output of audio produced.
Aside the amazing sound quality, another remarkable feature of the device is the design.
The Physical Appearance
Truth be told, Infinix really just seem to always get it right with the designs of their devices – the beauty, slimness, the uniqueness and everything. Although the Infinix Smart X5010 shares some level of similarities with the design of the Infinix Hot Note X551 (especially the rear view), little modifications on the rear differentiates them.
The plastic back cover has a beautiful brushed metal finish. The cover can be removed but mind you, it’s only so you can insert or remove the micro-SIM cards or the SD card. The battery is not removable. The device is however endowed with nicely curved edges that makes the device fit in well in my hand and makes me have that amazing feeling of holding one iPhone device. 🙂
The back (rear) of the Infinix Smart is simple and smooth. It houses the primary camera, LED flashlight, the Infinix logo at one-third of the device length, and the “smart” inscription at the bottom of the device. Simple enough, yeah? I guess this can also be attributed to the absence of a fingerprint scanner. Because if this device had a fingerprint scanner, it would definitely be located at the rear and surely take a portion of the available free space.
At the left side of the device, you have nothing, while the volume rocker buttons and the power button are well placed at the right side of the device.
To further add to the beauty of the Infinix Smart smartphone, Infinix Mobility decided to produce the device on about five different colours for buyers to choose from; Champagne Gold, Sandstone Black, Bordeaux Red, Mysterious Blue and Apple Green.
The design of the Infinix Smart X5010 is worth an 8 out of a 10.
The Display
The Infinix Smart X5010 has a 4.99-inch display, which is approximately 5.0-inch display. This display quality is of High Definition (HD) and has a resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels. Given that the device has a moderate screen size with a display resolution that measures 720 x 1280p gives the phone a crisp and vivid display.
But, for a device that is somewhat entertainment (music and movies) oriented, I would expect the screen to be a little bit bigger by some inch (say 5.5-inch) along with an increased resolution. However, considering that the Infinix Smart X5010 is a budget device, one would overlook the size of the screen.
The Processor, OS & Storage
The “Smart” smartphone is powered by a Quad-Core MediaTek MT6580 processor. The processor is an old-fashioned processor and one can’t help but to wonder why Infinix would opt for this processor choice in this era we live in. Although the processor has a decent speed; clocks up to 1.3GHz, the processor in itself is old and may not perform as good as high-end devices with better processors. I’m beginning to wonder if it’s a thing with OEMs to use the MTK6580 on their devices. The Oukitel U22 (a budget smartphone) also has the same processor as the Infinix Smart X5010. However, with the processor clock speed at just 1.3GHz, you don’t need to expect too much.
The graphic processing unit is powered by a Mali-400 MP graphics chipset.
There is 1GB of RAM to handle multitasking and temporary storage of app data. In my opinion, 2GB of RAM wouldn’t hurt, except Infinix plans to release a 2GB RAM version of the device later in the future. To keep your music, movies, and other data, a 16GB ROM is on board. And just in case you run out of space, a micro SD card can be used to expand the storage up to 32GB.
The SIM and microSD card slots are located inside the device. To change the SIM or insert a microSD card into the phone, you will need to remove the glossy, plastic back cover carefully.
To top off all the goodness of the Infinix Smart, the device comes out of the box with the latest version of Android OS; Nougat v7.0. I guess this will compensate for the old processor on the device. With the Android Nougat and XOS combo, efficient battery and storage utilization is a certainty, coupled with improved user interface. The user interface may be customized, but there are still some touch of Google’s Material Design in it.
The phone performed quite well too when benchmarked with AnTuTu:
CAMERA
The primary camera at the rear (back) of the device sports a 8MP shooter. It is clear that huge camera pixel does not always translate to great pictures – the phone is capable of taking nice and bright shots, but the bad side is the photo can lose quality when you zoom the it to an extent. It would have been cool if this smartphone come with at least 13MP camera because we are in 2024 and not 2012.
However, the camera isn’t that bad as it can takes pictures and snap videos of up to 3264×2448-pixel and it comes with features like auto-focus, face detection, and HDR camera. Below are pictures taken both indoor and outdoor with the back 8MP camera.
On the front, the secondary 2MP camera is up for taking selfies. You also don’t have to worry about lightning when you want to take a selfie with a group of friends at a late night gathering, the soft LED flash got you covered.
Below are some indoor shots taken with the front 2MP camera.
BATTERY
Moving to the power house of the Infinix Smart, the device packs a monster 3,060mAh non-removable battery. Seeing this battery capacity on a budget smartphone is impressive. There’s more power to handle movies, music, games and more.
This device lacks fast charge technology, so it may take a little long to charge from 0 to a 100%. However, when full, the battery can keep the device up and running for up to 2 days if following the regular battery saving tips like closing unused apps, turning off 3G when not needed and other things.
Verdict
The Infinix Smart is an appealing phone that houses a long lasting battery, a curvy edges and can be owned at an affordable price. However, looking at the technical specs and performance, there are only few things that should have come with the Smart and these include a better camera, 2GB RAM instead of the 1GB (unless there will be a Infinix Smart Pro), Fast charging because of its battery size and 4G support (although some locations are still expecting this fast internet technology). It appears people would have preferred better technical specifications at a slightly higher price.
The Infinix Smart X5010 is really worth buying. Such a beautiful bargain for one’s money.
