InFocus A2 launched with Spreadtrum SC9832 SoC – Review, Full Specs and Price

American company InFocus just launched the InFocus A2 budget smartphone in India. The Indian based American company always targets the low-class citizens in India and releases smartphones with great value for money. The company entered the India market in 2015 with their debut smartphone InFocus M2 and went bezel-less with InFocus M7s in January.

They have since then dominated the Indian budget smartphone market. The new A2 smartphone from InFocus houses the Spreadtrum SC9832 chipset and packs 2GB RAM, 16GB Storage among other quality features. Without further ado, meet the InFocus A2.

Design

InFocus A2

To be honest, it looks way too plain at the back with no ‘wow’ factor in sight. The company couldn’t even integrate the trending fingerprint scanner for easy access, rendering the back boring. Nevertheless, the InFocus logo does reflect light every once in a while.

There’s also a tiny loudspeaker at the bottom right corner for loud music. The rear camera and LED flash are the only quality features at the back. Moving to the sides, it measures 8.9 mm slim and weighs 147g. The device is only available in two colors which are Black and Gold.

Display

It comes with bezels as usual, just like most budget smartphones. Hopefully next generation budget phones comes with less bezels. However, it sports three navigation buttons at the bottom bezel, so it’s not totally useless unlike others. While the top bezel houses the ambient light sensor, speaker grille and selfie camera.

The 5-inch HD IPS capacitive touchscreen has a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels. It displays stunning visuals with up to 294 pixel per inch density. The multi-touch screen sports a 2.5D curved glass and reached a 67% screen to body ratio overall.

Hardware and Software

Handling performance is the Spreadtrum SC9832 chipset with Quad-core processor clocking at 1.3 GHz. Just like most budget smartphones, it has a 28nm process technology and 32-bit CPU architecture. In charge of graphics is the ARM Mali-400 MP2 processing unit with 2-Cores, clocking at 512 MHz.

In terms of RAM and storage space, a standard 2GB RAM and 16GB storage is available. The RAM has a memory speed of about 800 MHz for smooth multitasking and fast app launching. The 16GB storage space is upgradeable up to 32GB as well to accommodate more files and games. The A2 smartphone runs on Android 7.0 Nougat operating system with 360 user interface.

Camera

InFocus A2

A smartphone with a 5MP rear camera in 2024 gives me headache, it’s quite disappointing to be honest. The 5MP with f/2.2 aperture only captures up to 2K resolution images, with photographs boasting of just 2592 x 1944 pixels in dimension. Nonetheless, the LED flash should help out in low light environment but don’t expect magic. There’s another 5MP rear camera for selfies, while videos of 720 pixels are recorded at 30 frames per second.

Battery

Powering the InFocus A2 up is a 2400mAh removable Li-Ion battery with no fast charging technology support. The phone tends to charge slow as well, it takes close to 3 hours to boost from 0% to 100%.

  1. We have to be honest here, the specifications don’t look any good.

why spreadtrum proceesor? Phone with SD425 would have better choice.
